I have never done a track day, but have driven the ring.

Is there anywhere near London I can pitch up at drive, somewhere close so I can go regularly and learn the circuit etc?

What's the best place to go, track, atmosphere, possible coaching? etc

Thanks

Nearest true track would be Brands I guess, then maybe Lydden.

North weald does some trackday stuff, but I thinks its only training days.

Brands is probably your best bet. Loads of days on the Indy circuit, best bet to start off though may be this:

Never knew they did novice days, but it might be worth a go.

Get instruction, it will make the remainder of your time on track much more enjoyable! Have fun!

I did a novice day at Brands Indy last year as my first track day and was very impressed with it.

And yes, well worth investing insome tuition, it's money well spent and quickly improves your confidence and ability to drive and enjoy the track. If you do it early in the day you'll soon be out-pacing other cars who are continually taking the 'wrong' lines.

Also worth trying Bedford Autodrome for a first trackday. It's not that far from London.

Supposidly good for first timers too - lots of run off area, no real gradient change etc?

One of the Car Limits days at North Weald (one junction up the M11 from the M25 IIRC) might be worth looking into too.

Rockingham's not much further than Bedford from London. Plenty of weekend track days there this year, too.

Also depends on which side of London you are on...

if you are west, there are plenty of airfields near the M4 which are very reachable from London.

google 'motorsport events'...
