Im looking at getting a cheap set of tyres for my car. I will be using them mainly for trackdays and occasional road use. I cant afford R888's at the min and am trying to sort out getting a scrub set off a friend of a friend who uses them in his race series, so to keep me going i have been looking at the following:

- Toyo Proxes T1R
- Yokohama Parada SPEC-2

Has anyone got any feedback for these tyres and which ones would you go for?

Cheers

Don't have any direct experience of those tyres, but we've been using Maragoni Zeta Lineas in that size on a Mk1 MR2 with good results. Cheap, decent grip in the wet and the dry and a nice progressive break away. Wear reasonably well on track too.

I ran the Parada`s for a while on my Golf MK2. Good grip, but did overheat and started breaking down after long sessions on track. As a road / track tyre, i`d recommend them, but if you feel them `going off`, stop or you will ruin them. I didn`t stop and the blocks started de-laminating.

Hankook RS2s are worth looking at in this size, as are Federal SS595RS (not the normal SS595 though!).

Likewise - on a pug 306 - I had exactly the same experience with paradas. However, I would recommend them. The feel is good and wet weather performance was brilliant when they were quite new.

The Toyo's are from my experience a harder compound so may last longer but I don't like the feel of them.

I have a set of new 888's you could have for £250 if you want a set of those.

i take it u have looked at R888? wouldnt be cheapest and very good on track, depends on you bugget. i use the new eagle F1 18,225,40 XL £550 a set. good on track and road, they are almost as good in the wet as they are dry. i would always use a tyre that is good in the wet if its going to get road use as it rains alot LOL. i dont know much my self but wouldnt it be worth running a 40mm profile. what car is it for ?

I had Toyo T1-Rs in that size on my MR2. They are not great on track as they overheat very quickly in the dry. Kumho KU31s might be worth a look, in that size they are £28 each here http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b238...

Slightly O/T, but what's the view on how the Goodyear F1 GSD3 compares with the Toyo T1-R? I can definitely vouch for the Goodyear's performance in the wet, which is outstanding, but I don't know much about the T1-R.

Goodyear F1 GSD3 & Toyo T1-R's are very similar - soft tyre walls and soft compound. Great on the road but crap on track - they delaminate far too quick and even on a decent tarmac surface, you can still kill a set in a day.
The T1-R's I've used on a wet day held up well though.

I've also run Parada Spec2's on road & track in the past and whilst they give more grip than other budget Yoko's, the side walls are too soft for track and they suffer from excessive shoulder wear. Great on the road though.

T1-R's are a bit stiffer than GSD3's IMO. T1-R's turn in better, wear better, offer very similiar levels of dry grip but aren't a patch on the GSD3's for wet grip. My experience is road use only though i'm afraid.

I had that size Toyo T1R's on my 205 GTi and they were fine on track, only £30 each too.

I ended up getting the T1-R after many comments from other furums reccomending them as a wet tyre.

In time i will get a second set of wheels and Toyo R888's to use in the dry and keep the T1-R for wets.

Thanks for all your feedback.
