ChaseCam Dashware

Clever sofware for trackday fun

A super-cool software system that mixes in-car footage with on-board datalogging info and presents it on screen during video playback has just been launched in the US.

The new Dashware package from ChaseCam is offered primarily to help racers understand the information their datalogging devices provide, by more easily relating data to their car’s performance as seen from the driver’s seat.

While the practical uses seem evident for track-day fans and amateur racers, we can’t help thinking this package will also encourage naughty street-racing types to post competitive videos on YouTube – especially as it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to set the system up.

According to ChaseCam, the PC based software lets you take any video and almost any data source, then using premade or customised gauges create a professional looking video with the aforementioned data overlay.

It’s said to be easy to create new dials or bar graphs, and you can also share or download ‘factory’ versions from the company website. There’s a track-mapping facility that uses GPS data, and you can even dial-in data from other vehicles to show competitor track positions.

If you’ve got an onboard data source, the software is downloadable for a fee at www.chasecam.com And if you want to produce footage that’s filmed with something better than your mobile phone you might want to check out their BulletCams, too.

Just don’t forget that here in the UK video footage can be used as evidence in a court of law…

As have Race Technology, also Trackvision has been able to this for many years.

For a very neat and relatively low cost solution for both analysis and display there is nothing to beat the DL1+VIDEO4 from Race Technology http://www.race-technology.com/video4_2_7539.html

I was going to suggest that it could also be a TR5, but then one phrase came to mind: Lucas fuel injection...

No, I think you're right. The driver appears to be slowing down to come into the pits to have it tuned again and the other cars are passing him... biglaugh
