Been around Oulton Park as a passenger in one and it was awesome. The way it went rounds bends was great with plenty of accelration out of the bends.

(maybe totally diffrent in driving set, so proberly no help)

Jackie, just sold mine after a year. Great little car on track. Frustrating lack of grunt for "power circuits" though. The standard brakes aren't up to a day at Spa IMHO. Gets through tyres (driving style dependent).

was it std brakes ? ive been told the AP 4 pots are a worthwhile upgrade

maybe a cup car is the best starting point

I always thought as the Exige as a track car isn't it sold already equipt with track rubber and setup, bit pointless as a road car may as well have an Elise thats more of a road car and enjoy the open top motoring.

well unless you have the right 'packs' it doesn't come with oil coolers, accusump, provision for harnesses, sports seats or 240bhp .... so in some guises its not as track ready as you might think !

Standard suspension and brakes also seem limited and the adjustable ohlins and bilsteins as specced by lotus as upgrades can be apparently bettered considerably by nitrons and aftermarket ohlins.

but hey, im answering my own thread here !

Chris Randall with his 300hp race car used standard calipers! AP295 or even 304mm discs are worthwhile with Pagid RS14's but it seems the only people who rave about 4 pots are the people selling them??? My car (230hp Honda power) standard calipers AP295 discs, RS14's and APracing R600 fluid is absolutely fine including Spa.

could you go for an s/c honda S1 exige with all the trick bits?

ETA: nitrons are worth every penny.

Was at Bedford on Saturday with my Exige 255 and it was only 2nd to a KTM-XBOW that had obviously been tweaked or had 300 horses.

The car gets driven everyday and has Nitron adjustable suspension so you can run full soft on the road or hard on track. The biggest difference is the tyres. I run Toyo R888's and the amount of grip is on another planet compared to other sports cars.

You'll need at least 240 horses to be fast as the Exige S tends to weigh in at 935+kg which doesn't do its power to weight ratio any good. The best buy on the market right now is the Exige 260 which is a stripped cup car for £45k RRP that weighs 890kg - you can probably haggle a dealer down to under £40k in these market conditions.

Yep I'm sure different discs, pads and fluid etc make all the difference. As I said, in my experience the standard brakes aren't up to a hard day on a track like Spa (though they were fine at Silverstone and Dijon for example).

thanks stevey... i wouldn't spend 45k on one though

a big part of the point of them from my POV is that they now represent a good bit of value in the classifieds, changing hands for as low as 20k

I think i'll go and test drive one again. TBH i'd go straight for a GT3 but do not fancy the running costs when tracking.

If your buying an early 04/05 Exige then you can snap one up for 17k. However you need to budget for the following:
- Replacement Clutch (£1k)
- Replacement bushes & toe links & GEO (£600)
- Replacement pads (£225)

You'll cook the stock pads in 2 or 3 hard laps, at the very least you'll need a set of Pagids. I wouldn't drive it everyday without adjustable suspension either otherwise you'll have back problems in 6 months.

lol.... I'd go R500 i think but seriously, not ready for all that again (yet)

just want something nice to own and usable on a daily basis but then a handful of leisurely TD's as well

i don't really like the look of exige S2s that much... but they do make a lot of sense (whereas GT3 is bigger money and Nobles are not for tracking).

Jackie we sold our 2006 Exige S for mid 20's. It was an "individual colour" - Gulf - but that didn't put people off. It went abroad, they didn't care about RHD. So, in our experience there is some Euro-driven firmness about prices
