Funny that, I also rented a Golf DSG from R-A-R, a 1.8T I believe and did a 8M.19S. That time is obviously bridge to gantry. I had mega sweaty palms afterwards though! Heidi and Theo who run the company are top guys.
Impressive seeing as Sport Auto only managed 8:51 for a full lap so knock 30 seconds of a BTG lap and your faster than their test driver. thegreenhell said:
But everybody knows that you're allowed to knock a minute off your time when you post it on the internet.
I have the vids with the time running if you want a look!
The R-A-R Golf GTI's run a standard engine but the suspension is uprated and the brake pads also. A little less weight too due to the rear seats and sound proofing being removed.

Sounds like a good video. Linky?
I have the vids saved on my HDD but unedited and the sound quality is poor (HeroCam now reset). You can download the vid from my online web-storage host here (13Mb): *edited - wrong link*Edited by Need For Speed on Wednesday 15th April 00:23
Correct link is 248Mb!

lol. Need for speed - video evidence is needed here!! AFAIK the ring taxis don't run sub 8 minute btg laps so if you were doing 8.19's they would be highly unlikely to be coming past you!
There aren't many people doing those times on public days you know.
I haven't a clue but I managed to stick with Sabine in the Ring Taxi, she was sideways through a few bends and was way quicker on the straights. Not too fussed on the time, I drive the Ring like a fast b-road, I don't drive half as commited as a normal trackday. Scary place, needs respect.

The co-owner of my track car has run 8:24 BTG in a E36 328i with cage, suspension and 888s.
That's impressive for a 328.Jethro Bovingdons (formerly of evo fame) track-prepped E36 M3 could only manage about the same with a pro driver at the helm.
And IIRC that was a closed session with very little traffic!

Some interesting posts here about the Evo M3 (including a contribution by Jethro himself) and various cars and their lap times:
