Any anyone ever tried the two together? I'm about to go for it but unsure as to how the car will like it's new tyres - a quick Google reckons they could be took grippy?

Also, the wheel size should be 55 but the 888s only come in 60. Would that be a problem?

Cheers,

I had a 250bhp Saxo and used to run it on them without any trouble. There weren't many tyres that could handle it smile

I was running 195/50/15, are you still on 14" wheels? guess it would depend on your suspension setup as well.

I run Yokohama AO48's on my track fiesta, throughly recommend them. R888s have good grip but people I have spoken to say they go off too quickly.

Yes mate still on 14s.

Suspension is standard - I was all for uprating stuff but I like how it handles as is. Having chatted to a few garages they've all advised to leave it alone! I'm going to stick a roll cage in, plus maybe some struts but that'll probably be all (until something breaks Ha)

How much life comes with the 888s? I don't fancy spending near £500 on a set to ruin them in one or two sessions. I'll probably be on an airfield at some stage, too. Which I know will murder tyres quicker.

Personally putting grippy tyres like that on a 106 would spoil the fun if you ask me

You're probably right. But I need new ones and I'm at a loss as to what I should be looking at!

That said, I'd have a little joyful cry if I owned a car with semi slick tyres... Yeah, I don't get out much ; )

I put 888s on my Clio Williams with standard suspension and the body roll was comical.

A million times better with coilovers.

Probably better off going with something like AD08s or similar.

I run 15" on my GTi and have used 888s in the past and found them to be fine although I've recently swapped over to A048 Yokos and I am pretty impressed with them.

Cant really comment on the life span, I buy them from I guy I know who does a BMW championship, get a set of 4 for £80 that have been used for 1x 16 lap race. I've done 3 track sessions since and are still going strong.

Run 16's on my 205 GTI, plenty of grip. done full week end at nurburgring, castle combe twice and brands hatch about 6 times. Still plenty of life left in them, go for it

Toyo are releasing a new tyre, similar to the 888's - see here:

Might be worth considering.

I have a Mk1 Mr2, about 120bhp and 1000kg, similar power-to-weight as a 106? Anyway, it's a low power, sweet-handling car. Normal road tyres (Eagle F1's) melted far too quick, I was worried that R888's would give too much grip for the car to be entertaining, so I went for AD08R. They are absolutely brilliant on track, lots more grip than the F1's so corner speed and G-forces have gone up quite a lot, but I can still break traction and get the car sliding if I feel so inclined. Also, they are lasting really well on track, and still perform OK in the wet. Highly recommended!

Think I'll start hunting around for some Ad08's.

Entirely off topic (ish) Does anyone know how much it'll cost to weld in a roll cage?

You could probably get a bolt in one and just have the floor strengthening plates welded in? That way you could then simply bolt the cage in and save a few quid? Depending where you are, you could also try these guys?
