Should be coming along with a mate for his first track day in his R53 Cooper S. My E36 isn't scheduled to make an appearance, but I may have a last-minute change of heart biggrin

95 odd cars booked in. It's going to be a busy one!

Christ, you're right. I didn't think anyone booked more than 80 onto Bedford GT, as they're only supposed to have 40 cars out at a time.

With the light being so crap at this time of year, we'll probably get stopped at half three, making it even busier..

Will be there as well, haven't tracked the Lotus for over a year - was looking forward to it until I saw those numbers.

Numbers don't look good if that many turn up, I tend to avoid summer track days for exactly that reason - the off-season ones tended to be less crowded.

Whatever way it goes it will be better than playing Saturday taxi for the kids!

Cheers,

Phil

i wonder if evenings and weekends are statistically more dangerous?
i suspect they might be.
Of course there are other variables and it only takes one idiot, but on average i reckon the weekday crowd are better.

There's a video of it here.

Looks a pretty nasty way to get taken out, and then blamed for not taking evasive action(!)

"....but had almost zero retardation from the brakes, it was for this reason only that Mr Gray and I collided..."

So basically gone to a trackday without doing any research, preperation, checks etc?
Stock car with stock brakes, maybe half worn pads, old fluid, etc.

Utterly shocking driving by the 135i driver. Brake fade like that wouldn't come on straight away, while it's an unfortunate accident there's a huge lack of care from the Beemer driver and reading the "other" thread sounds like he was pushing the boat out all day.

It certainly is. Sadly it was probably my last track day.

Clearly a load of bks on his part trying to make an excuse for attempting to make a double car overtake and not judging his speed and adjusting braking points accordingly. They annoying thing is he can articulate himself well enough in his statement so clearly he isn't a chav, despite behaving like one.

He deserves to be punished no argument, the only real tragedy however is that "we TD'ers" are likely to suffer most financially in the long term as a result of such cases going legal and being awarded a decision with financial implications.

@DeadEye, I sympathise with you and I hope you fully recover. Including your will to do what you enjoy including TD's. Please bear in mind that this type of crash and worse happens every day on public roads with much worse consequences for many people, so the level of risk to you isn't significantly lowered by not doing TD's if you are still a public road user wink

Wish I could understand who said what in Fcaebook but here's the long quote
fb said:
Whilst I have every sympathy with Mr Gray, for being in the wrong place at the wrong time so to speak, I do not see any point in engaging in an e-mail tennis match with him so will not be contacting him direct, I have sustained similar injuries to Mr Gray and have a very badly damaged car.

The unfortunate situation arose as I braked at the normal point for the corner but had almost zero retardation from the brakes, it was for this reason only that Mr Gray and I collided, the Smart car that Mr Gray referred to was my friends car who I attended the day with and he had seen me and allowed me through before the corner. In an attempt to avoid hitting Mr Gray's car I deliberately left the circuit and took to the grass to miss Mr Gray but he obviously had no awareness of my position as he took no avoiding action and we collided on the other side of the first corner.

I had obviously hoped that by missing the apex of the corner and going off the circuit he would see me more clearly and would be able to veer off to the run off area to the right of the first corner.”

He also added in the next email.

“I have also spoken to my friend in the Smart car who has confirmed that he saw me and moved over before the corner.”

I disagree, surely private legal matters wouldn't effect the price of trackdays?
But I get the meaning behind it.
