Circuit De Charade
Discussion

One or two of us are thinking of going on Friday 14th May, it was discussed last year but it got overtaken by other things.
It won’t be an organised event as such but if there are any like minded souls feel free to stick your hand up and see what can be worked out.
Going via Paris it is about 700 km’s from Calais or about 890 km’s if you go Rouen, Le Mans, Tours etc which from experience is far more convivial than hauling around Paris.
By May it ought to be very nice weather and is ahead of the main holiday season, the circuit looks an absolute gem

I occasionally do some work in Clermont-Ferrand, and drive down from the Coventry area. It's about a 12 hour drive but I always go via Paris - it's not actually too difficult a journey if you time yourself to avoid the main rushhour periods.
The drive south from Paris is quite pleasant as autoroutes go, and you will make very good progress for about the last 250 miles.
If you get the chance, the drive south from Clermont-Ferrand is also quite spectacular; as is the Puy-de-Dome itself.
Clermont-Ferrand has no real attractions (except the monumental cathedral and a few surrounding streets). It's best to find a hotel out of the centre.

Thanks very much for that, it’s a lovely drive as you head south for sure. On that note on the day before we are also looking at a day at Paul Ricard which looks like a worthwhile adventure as well. The drive south from Paris is quite pleasant as autoroutes go, and you will make very good progress for about the last 250 miles.

We've run a few days there now and are back again at the end of June.
Easily in the top 5 French circuits so one of the best in Europe, just be careful of the noise limits and the walls.
Our circuit guide is here - http://www.lotus-on-track.com/circuit_guide/charad... it's also on our iphone app http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/lotus-on-track/id35... if thats of use, especially to find the entrance or fuel.

Your own days would be ideal but I suspect you wouldn’t allow the CSL on?Easily in the top 5 French circuits so one of the best in Europe, just be careful of the noise limits and the walls.

This is a brave but very fun and good circuit. I have driven it 4 times and always finish laps with a sweat. If you want to go fast then you must be brave. Not a good circuit for a spin or mistake because the stop barriers can be close. Sometimes the policy on noise can vary so check before you go.

After a truly disastrous and miserable day at Goodwood on Saturday the idea of some rather more clement venues in Europe has a robust appeal.toulon94 said:

The CSL isn’t exactly loud but let’s hope it’s a dry session when we venture off in May, it does look a lovely circuit mind youcalypsoelise said:

I have heard noise limits are very tough there. What is your experience at Charade with noise limits ?Easily in the top 5 French circuits so one of the best in Europe, just be careful of the noise limits and the walls.

The quiet section is indicated between two flashing amber lights; they just ask you to lift of through that section. A trackday in May is likely to be lightly attended, so the cumulative noise is unlikely to be an issue.
