Just a quick PSA for fellow drivers: had an unfortunate incident at Bedford recently involving a certain purple BAC Mono (you’ll know the one if you've seen it — very flashy, very purple, very… resale-value conscious).

During a recent track day at Bedford Autodrome, I was involved in an incident where this individual felt it appropriate to dive bomb me into a corner — textbook late lunge, zero awareness. The result? Damage to both our cars. Two independent witnesses confirmed what I already knew: the move was entirely on him.
Sadly, responsibility wasn’t something he brought with him to the circuit. No apology, no accountability, just lots of concern about the “re-sale value” of his Mono. This isn't a witch hunt — just a heads-up. If you see a purple Mono being unloaded, maybe give it a bit more room than usual. Expensive paint doesn’t make you immune to the basics of racecraft.

Trackdays are about fun and respect. Let’s not forget the second part as we hit the summer season. Drive safe, folks.

Unfortunately not an isolated incident. Hopefully not to much damage to yours?
There was an incident a few weeks back an EVO that somehow managed to plow into the back of a cayman GT4 on the sighting laps, car straight back on the trailer and gone no words at all to the GT4 driver.

Getting the damage assessed at the moment, also a GT4, must be something in the air.

Shouldn’t there be some type of insurance for these incidents? I never done a track day so don’t know how it works.

Especially as some cars can be quite expensive.

Trackday insurance will cover your costs, not that of a 3rd party. They also stipulate a much larger excess than your typical road insurance, so, unfortunately, it does have an impact, having to pay for someone else's poor decision making.

Yep , you turn up for a laugh and bit of fun and before you know it there is someone who thinks they are gods gift and going for stupid moves or the outright lap record........ It seems you are not alone as there is a YT`er trying for a lap record on a trackday and has also come to grief. Luckily noone else involved and flippantly posting about it for the clicks.

Really sorry to hear about this one, Rav. PJ told me what happened at Silverstone on Monday.

Hopefully not too much damage to yours.

It's actually something that's putting me off trackdays. Too many idiots with zero respect for others.

It’s incredibly rare to be honest. Don’t let it put you off.

I was always told if you can see brake lights stay well back. Also shouldn't be overtaking in the corners anyway. Fool.

I've done nearly 50 track days and never seen two cars come together, I've seen plenty go off alone, including myself, but never a collision with another driver.

I would have agreed up until last year, and then I saw car to car contact on two consecutive tracks days!

I think I'm up at 50+ days now too, and I've only seen car to car contact once - a couple of door mirrors were misplaced at Donington.

Fortunately huge speed differentials seem rare. Hopefully, bac mono driver might exercise more caution now he's had to fork out for repairs due to his own impatience or lack of following the rules.

Thanks Rob. I do agree with what others are saying, don't let it put you off. In 15+ years of doing trackdays this is a first for me.

I do think that driving standards have changed at these events, but then so has the quality of cars that now attend. Fundamentally though, bit of respect from drivers on these events is not too much to ask so everyone goes home safe & having had a good day.

I will say that MSV, in their response have been brilliant. They've informed me that a 'red warning' was issued to the driver and if that means he gets to reflect on being an absolute prat and learns from it, then thats the best outcome I could have hoped for from them.

As for the GT4, still waiting on the insurers decision on how to proceed.

Your damage caused by the BAC is covered by insurance?

covered by my insurance, not his. Unfortunately its a hit i'm having to take caused by a lack of talent, awareness, respect, and basic capability from the guy. (I'm still salty about his actions and response as you can tell, refrained to date to name and post pictures as it won't change anything, let's see how the saltiness grows smile )

28 April? There were a couple of bonnets flying off - one from a white mono, and one from a Rothmans livery 'race' car, I'm not sure what that was.

There are some donuts on track these days.

I have seen two comings together in 13 years of track days, so by my reckoning that still counts as rare.
One was just simple brake failure, and he went into the back of the car in front, another a complete idiot trying to overtake on the inside (so wrong side anyway) at the hairpin (so in a bend and without the consent of the driver in front) at Cadwell Park.

Track day insurance usually has a 10% of the value of the car deduction from any claim, so a GT4 owner I expect would be paying the first few thousand pounds at least - sorry, not up to date on such values. But beware of having the cover on your road policy - any claim will affect future premiums, as oyu are claiming on your own policy.

I had a near miss last time out, when a 911 Clubsport race car practising for a support race at the weekend decided to storm past me (on the correct side but without me having seen him and moved right to give him room) as I was taking the racing line out of a corner onto the straight.
He made it past on the grass, but the whole thing un-nerved me as I could see the consequences if he had lost it on the grass and hit me.

But I can always choose my track days more carefully in future, and avoid race cars en masse.

I had a coming together with a small LM-type racecar at Spa last year. Divebombed me under braking, I turned in, bang, perfect side to side contact. 90% his fault IMO (I'll take 10% blame as at the last second a blue flag was shown to me, but I was already mid corner looking at the apex).

Horrible French chav of a driver who of course admitted no responsibility. The only positive from the whole episode was I got to visit the stewards room at Spa! Was surprised to see 3-4 guys working there, even for a TD.

I've seen at least two other car-on-car incidents on TDs, not that rare in my experience.

Only had one close call and that was at Bedford.

I had just come out of the pits so wasn't up to speed yet, but I was hardly dawdling. Some hero in a 992 C2S was clearly under the impression we were auditioning to be picked up by Christian Horner, and came right up the inside onto the brakes into the left hander of the first chicane. Even the cooking 992 models are absolute flying machines, so he would have rocketed out of the first corner, but I genuinely didn't see him until the last minute and had to pull out of the corner.

Had I been too aggressive or just misjudged something I'd go up to the person and just offer an apology for the misunderstanding, even if I thought they were at fault. But I saw him in the pits later and he just blanked me.

fk him. I don't have time for some company director come wannabe F1 driver trying to dominate a leisurely track day, and I can have a short fuse sometimes laugh, so I just gave him a wide berth - on track and in the pits.
