Used to work this as an Mainframe Operator....Two days doing 8am-8pm followed by two nights 8pm to 8am then 4 days off. So MON 8am-8pm, TUE 8am-8pm, WED 8pm to THU 8am, THU 8pm to FRI 8am then FRI is first day off, SAT, SUN, MON off, back in on TUE at 8am.
Wednesday is effectively a day off, and after the last night shift, stay up all day for another day off.
Fairly common in some 24/7 manufacturing environments, too.
As mentioned above, it will be something like 2 x 6am-6pm days, then 2 x 6pm-6am nights, then 4 days off, etc.
So DDNN OOOO DDNN OOOO DDNN etc.
Some people prefer DDDD OOOO NNNN OOOO DDDD but if you're crap at getting up or struggle with working nights, at least with the 2/2 pattern you only have 2 consecutive early starts and 2 nights at a time to cope with.

Continental shifts say 2 x 12 hour day shifts, 24 hours off then 2 x night shifts then 4 days off rotating 7 days a week.Been there at the post office mail centre, did EEE LLL NNN OOO, I lasted less than 2 weeks, I just couldnt get into it, I loved the job and it was a good laugh, but just couldnt get into the changing hours and was like a zombie the whole time and took about 2 weeks to get back to normal,
