Job when inbetween jobs
Discussion
I've got a couple of months of gardening leave which brings me nicely up to Christmas. I know it can take a few months to find a job and I am just sitting here wondering if I should do something in the meantime, apart from the long list of jobs Mrs 111R has created for me.
Did any of you do that for the sake of your sanity or simply to bring in some money?

Shops usually take on temp staff in the runup to crimbleDid any of you do that for the sake of your sanity or simply to bring in some money?

I’m in a similar position. It was great being ‘off’ at first in August with the scorching weather, September has been rather miserable. I’ve been keeping busy around the house and garden whilst looking for work but I live alone, go for walks alone or with my neighbour. I stay at partner’s house a couple of nights.
As well as applying and interviewing for career roles I’m getting a bit anxious so tomorrow I’ve an interview for Tesco delivery driver. Only applied last Thursday! It will get me out n about, I’m quite social and I like driving, seeing around me. I did get a generous severance package but I want it to last and ideally invest once I’m sorted, not fritter it away.
Ps, I worked in retail shop floor when I was younger so wasn’t interested in shelf filling role.
Every shop or restaurant around here is looking staff though.

That’s a good achievement. When I was working I kept looking at tasks and thinking if I didn’t work I’d have time to do them, so I’m chipping away at them.
Sorted the garage yesterday, got the good car back in after being driven more over the past few months. Today I reorganised my sliderobe, sorted summer and winter clothes. If it stays dry I’ll rake leaves.
My mental and physical health has improved and I’ve been largely keeping to a similar routine as I was working. Although instead of a first call I’ll be out a walk, conversing with nature hahaha.
The main prompter for me has been the terrible weather and darker days, I want to keep sane and relevant.

I used the time to go to the (completely unrelated) business in which I am a partner to learn and understand how it works. This was extremely useful.
The time before (15yrs ago) I used the redundancy cheque and time available to complete renovations on the BtL I still own.
Before that was the break between uni and starting my career. I claimed the dole for a bit simply to say I had then went temping as I was so bored.

I assume you want another job post Christmas, generally the first few months of the year are quiet in hiring terms dependent upon your field of work, but I'd be contacting recruiters, polishing the CV and explain your situation then keep in contact so they remember you if anything comes up.
In the meantime the world is your oyster, I know someone many years ago who worked for me but got made redundant around this time of year, we kept in touch for a while but after he left he spent a few months working at Asda I think doing shifts stacking shelves as the Christmas rush was approaching, got staff discount also so he was quite happy. Post new year him and his wife buggered off and travelled the world for a year.
Anything retail will be picking up generally around this time, whether that be store jobs, deliveries if that is of interest.
