I've unexpectedly been offered a 6 month contract (probably end up longer) supporting an ex employer via an agency and will be paid a day rate through an umbrella company. The recruitment agent has provided the names below as potential options - has anyone any experience of dealing with any of them, pro's/con's?

Parasol
Paystream
Focussed
Nasa
Sapphire
Workwell
Trafalgar
Giant

I've never done this before and so any experiences good/bad would be welcome.

Don't do it, whatever they promise it will save its almost guaranteed to come back and bite you later on and cost you more.

Go PAYE or if its going to be longer than 6 months go LTD.

OK, I'm ignorant here. I thought the umbrella company employed me paye? I've no interest in trying to avoid or minimise paying tax, just want a simple solution.

That's not the case, if you use a reputable one. Just stay away from any that are based in Isle of Man, owned by Baroness Mone's husband, or offer expenses, or loans.

I've used Clarity Umbrella for years when I was inside IR35. Just make sure it's https://www.clarityumbrella.co.uk/

Super, thanks for that. I suspect I will end up doing this sort of thing for several years and want to be totally above board.

Agree there for sure is some companies that are all above board, the company that I used was above board fully based in the UK etc but as Government changes laws and back dates certain aspects and 5 years later (in my case) you get hit with a huge bill, then pay accountants over 10k to argue the case to then get the bill halved I really dont think its worth it.

This is completely back to front - if they formerly worked for them - and they go limited that's pretty much why IR35 exists.

Umbrella is PAYE - just remember in whatever rate you agree - you'll be paying your own employers NI.....

I used parasol for a few years while on an inside IR35 contract - was all pretty straightforward.
