Car Sales Vs Estate Agency

Wondering what peoples thoughts are on moving from car sales to estate agency? Has anyone on here done it?

Despite the reputation that car sales had, you often meet very good, professional car sales people.

Despite the fact that "there is always an exception to the rule", there is not 1 estate agent in the western world that isn't an unprofessional, two faced lieing bd. For your own sake, don't join their ranks.

Yes I have done it, both ways infact.

You probably can earn more in car sales imo as a general rule, that said there are some very well paid estate agents out there, but the hours of the estate agent are probably easier going. What did you want to know specifically?

As for the reaction having done both, people will think you're a shark in either business, so I wouldn't worry about perception, the public all ready think your a before you have started.

I started off as an estate agent and moved onto car sales. You can definatly earn more selling cars for a start. Ive got to be honest I think the public dont really trust either salesman much.

I think you on the whole will earn more in cars, but there are estate agents that earn more than any car salesperson could hope to.

Yeh I dont deny that. Although it works both ways. We have a salesman who is earning somewhere in the region of £5k a month! He can literally sell anything to anyone.

Thats still around 70k though, I used to work in the same company as agents earning over 300k. But few and far between!!!

Like a few here I've done both, although the estate agent bit was 20+years ago. Have occassionally thought about getting out of the car trade to return to EA so would be interested to see how you get on in the current climate if you do go for it.

Mention either trade, and there's a preconception that you're a wideboy/not to be trusted from many people.

To become a fully qualified Estate Agent requires a great deal of learning.

Do you have the mental dexterity to take the normal Windsor knot and bdise it to such an extent that it has more in common with a cravat than a conventional tie?

Are you able to fit a reflexive pronoun into every sentence you utter.

If you do have these two key skills then you will go far in estate agency.

FYI an Assosciate in a well locationed (south) agency will be pulling in £100,000+ in commission. bds. A necessary evil unfortunately.

Bit of an update...

Applied for a job in at a local agent, went for an interview & was not impressed with the way the interviewee presented himself/his employer. Of course not everyone will be like the person I met - I'll stick with the motor trade for now.

Hi guys

Rather than starting a new thread, was wondering if studying for the ARLA technical award would be beneficial to start a career as an estate agent? I have worked as an administrator for an estate agent and looking to progress now!...cheers.

They need people to sell houses, if you can demonstate that you're able to do that then what paper qauls you've got won't matter.
