What is the hardest permanent job?

I think that everyone would have a different idea as to what the 'hardest permanent job' is. To me, the Police that have to deal with Paedophlia would have a very hard job.

I'd have to second this, there are a lot of aspects of an armed forces career that really appeal to me, problem is I just can't stomach the risk of losing limbs or indeed my life etc over something like Afghanistan especially if its down to not even having standard kit etc... got nothing but respect for our people out there making the best of a bad situation.

As I am constantly reminded, the hardest job is: -

Senior (recently promoted) Child Development Officer (aka housewife with two pre-school kids).

Having been seconded to the role whilst the incumbent had some rare annual leave granted for the weekened from her 24/7 shift and £0 annual salary, I certainly agree.

Any one seen the discovery channels 'deadliest catch', now that is a hard job, 70 hours working in the cold watching out for icebergs and all for a bit of crab in some of the roughest waters in the world, The pay can be good but depends on how much you catch.

Social work, particularly if you're doing child protection/criminal justice type stuff. I had to work my way through some files of that a few years back now and some of it made genuinely depressing reading.

Geriatric psych nursing can be pretty challenging too.

A friend of my GF's considered becoming a counsellor in social services specialising in child rape. They put a 'life span' on the job of 5 years before it all gets too much for individuals and what they see/hear.
