Anyone here work for Dell?
Discussion
Hello,
If you mean field engineer roles for customer support...
I do not work for Dell. However I am often in contact with them myself: I'm a site based engineer and we have a lot of in-warranty Dell computers.
Dell actualy sub contract their repairs (where field engineers are used to come out and repair) to another company. I think its called Getronics. I will check tommorow.

I'm trying to find out if they have any Field Engineer roles available at the moment, but cannot seem to find anything on their website at the moment.
Thanks
Sam
From speaking to the engineers Dell send to my sites, I wouldn't thank you for the job. The last guy that visited me covered most of the Scottish central belt. He got paid the same for each visit, regardless of how long it took to get there and how long he was onsite, and he had to cover his own travel costs too. Thanks
Sam
It is Getronics
I have to say, the engineers never seem to happy with life.
Im currently in a desktop support role and love it, Im dreading that when the contract im on ends that I'll have to become a field engineer.
An earlier thread you replied to suggets that you'd have the apporpriate skills for desktop support. Have you considered this?

Yeah, its on my list, and I've been applying. I'd just prefer to be in a field based role having been sat on my arse in an office for 8 years. I have to say, the engineers never seem to happy with life.

To be honest though the skills I have are pretty basic when compared to those available in the big wide world of IT, which generally means I could expect a salary of £5-6k less than I am on now.
I'd love to get back into the industry into a role that I can use to enhance my skills, but not having worked directly in IT support for the past 5 years or so I'm finding it hard to get my foot in the door.
I could do desktop support standing on my head with both hands tied behind my back, but I dont have the immediate experience or piece of paper that opens doors.

I work for Phoenix IT Service(They cover the whole of the UK), they also employ lots of field engineers.
Maybe check and see if they have any vacancies?
If not I'd give them your CV for future consideration anyway as I seem to get the impression jobs come up quite often, could be wrong but I'd say its worth a shot.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
