I have my CBOS and MIST certification and my Offshore medical, I'm 18 with no experience, my only plus point is my father is relatively high up in a large offshore drilling company. What are the chances off been offshore in the near future (within 6 months). Would like an idea if not then i'm going to go Diving for a while.

thanks

Try posting this in the Scotland section - lots of offshore people on there.

Unless I'm missing something, how is anyone on here going to be able to tell you? confused

Wouldn't you have to actually be applying for jobs and stuff? Or is there some sort of waiting list for off-shore work on which you place yourself, and then just wait for your number to be called?

i am asking purely out of curiosity, as i don't want to apply for a job when there is only a possibility of been called, and when i'm in Thailand or wherever i wont be able to be contacted, so before applying i want to know how high the chances are of gettinga job before i decide anything.

Mods- please move this to the scottland section, thank yousmile

if you've got no previous offshore experience then any firm will keep you land based for a certain amount of time, we make hydraulic kit for the offshore market & regularly send technicians out for servicing etc. Newbies who have no experience tend to be workshop bound for 12-18 months initially to learn the ropes, companies running the rigs I would think would have a similar policy although maybe not quite as long. you can't send any old bod out there straight off.
