I went for an interview last week and my prospective employer has come back and asked for references.

I put references on request on my CV to make sure they didn't contact anyone without me knowing.

The problem I have now is that I've only ever had 2 jobs in my life. One whilst I was at school, and my current job. Obviously I can't get my current boss to provide one, and where I worked when I was at the school (restaurant) has changed hands several times since then.

What do I do?

how old are you and how long since you left school? old form tutor/headmaster should suffice for one, and have a chat to your boss about the second. he can't sack you for looking for work elsewhere.

Thanks - I hadn't thought of that. I left school in 2003 so not too long ago. I only see one problem - schools are on Oct hols now but that may just delay plans.

Not that keen on asking my current boss, I did fake an appt to get time off..

How about your GP? Or just someone professional (doctor, solicitor etc) who has known you for a few years. Family friends?

Your going to have to come clean with your boss at some point. Don't be sneaky as it will backfire and you could end up with no reference.
