just been aplying for a job, and theres a section about disability, all fine you say, ive got nothing wrong with that
a disabled person may be much better at a job than me
i might also be much better than a disabled person

BUT, if i was disabled, i could get a gauranteed interview

sorry if the words are a bit small,

with the way the job market is at the moment, to be honest im not holding out for a reply, let alone an interveiw, but if i chopped my legs off, i could get a gauranteed interview, i thouhgt the disablilty act was about stopping discrimination?

positive discrimination IS STILL DISCRIMINATION

am i the only one annoyed by this? dont get me wrong, i think disabled people should get equal right etc, and i have a close friend who has recently been put in a wheel chair, but surely everyone has to be siging from the same hymn sheet???

I would suggest English Heritage have their hands tied in the same ways as other public sector bodies in this matter.

Being a normal, healthy, white British male, I feel like one of the most discriminated against types in this stupid society.

its the positive discrimination that bugs me, and its happening everywhere, this country seems to be forgetting about ts people, and worrying too much about the minority

It's just PC culture going to far.

You should hear the words you are not allowed to use in Situations Vacant adverts. Very stupid.

Nothing to stop you claiming to be disabled, if you have a slight limp or the like. You don't get a bit of paper saying 'officially disabled'.

Put yes, and if they ask how, tell them you have Zuiger Hoofden Syndrome, an incurable wasting affliction. Manifestations of this syndrome include a need to type rubbish at computers for extended periods.

Is being short sighted a disability?

No.

But you are right (oh, and I now count as disabled under the DDA), positive discrimination is wrong.

It sounds slighty fairer than the old Prison Service rules. With them if you were non white and could fill the application form in you had to be given a job!

Without looking at the picture (as I'm posting from my phone and can't be bothered) it sounds like the two ticks scheme. The idea is that if a disabled person meets the minimum requirements for the job they'll automatically get an interview.

And the reason for all that and other positive discrimination stuff is that people tend to recruit people like themselves. So when the people recruiting aren't disabled and haven't seen any disabled people working before they develop a bias against them. Same principle as Labour's all female candidate lists.

Work in a country where you are a minority & you will realise that we really don't have it bad in the grand scheme of things.

Yep, I've seen this a fair bit. Does piss me off a lot. Not enough to try and change anything though.

That's my take on it too...so long as the "Essential" skills are met then people with a disability will be offered an interview.

Guaranteed interview doesn't mean they're guaranteed to get the job, so no positive discrimination imho.

The police "used" to do that too.

if youve tried to get a job recently, if your like me, you will find that getting a reply saying sod off is hard, getting to the interview is the problem

The police used to give anyone non white a job, as long as they could fill a form out?

Perhaps not quite that obvious, more like: if you aren't a minority "quota'd" applicant you won't get hold of an application form, and the assessment criteria are higher. I know someone who went to a gay pride parade just to try to get an application form.

Thanks to the OP for this.

I'm disabled and I'll be using this to get an interview in my next job application.
