Police Specials
Discussion
My long standing girlfriend whom currently works for a sports sales company and has done fr 5 years has applied to be a Special officer where you give 4 hours or more a week to be a police officer (for free). Now shes white 24 english and a straight A student never been in trouble born and bred in the UK, both parents are teachers and generally perfect for the role. She got a letter on Friday telling her that due to the vetting proceedure she has been unsuccessful. Now she had an interview due this wednesday and all was fine. She has passed the first tests or whatever and then out of the blue they say shes not wanted or needed? When she called up this morning to find out why just got an answerphone and an automated message saying they are looking for specials? Now to me and everyone else that knows her she would be perfect for it. Does anyone here have any ideas why she was refussed at the vetting stage?
Its really got to her shes been on the police forums and stuff and seems to happen a fair old bit. Her aim is to be in the police clearly but this has really knocked her back.
Any advice would be apreciated

Call me cynic but is it because she's too perfect?
She doesn't fit any LGBT, ethnic minority, under-educated or disabled category therefore they haven't got a pigeon hole for her.
Well that was my thinking TBH shes to "perfect" in that she is in a stable job not involved in crime and is a model citizen. Strikes me as slightly odd? She doesn't fit any LGBT, ethnic minority, under-educated or disabled category therefore they haven't got a pigeon hole for her.
I'm half way through the application process at the moment so I might be able to help - It's unlikely that she is too "perfect" for the job. That is a ridiculous reason. Without going into too much detail what is her financial history like? any issues there? any criminal records for any family members, If she put you down as her partner any convictions on your side of the family.
Get her to ring the recruitment department as you can ask for the reason you where declined especially in the vetting stage - You can also appeal the decision if you think it is unjust.

Her financial history is spotless, no convictions for anything not speeding nothing. She put me down as a partner nothing doing there either. My brother has a spent conviction, but my other brother works for the MOJ and they spent 3k on background checks on the family and was all fine and nothing on her side either as mentioned both parents are teachers at private schools and never been in trouble in their lives, so very much doubt its that. She has spoken to two sgt's currently serving (family friends) she suggested that to them and they said nope wouldnt be a problem? So in summary all the things mentioned above are clear, this is why im wondering what it could be. She is writting a letter tonight in appeal as its really getting to her.Get her to ring the recruitment department as you can ask for the reason you where declined especially in the vetting stage - You can also appeal the decision if you think it is unjust.

That sounds very strange then! I obviously cannot answer the exact reason but it does seem odd. I think the best thing to do is write or ring the recruitment department and try to get hold of a person to speak to. I would definatly appeal! It seems strange for them to strike her off completely, If they were going to stop the recruitment process for a while they would ask her if she would like to remain on file and not get rid of her altogether. I hope she gets it sorted!

Ditto because all I hear about is this!! She is doing a course currently to become a proper officer not just a special aswell, she has spoke to the force involved with the course she is doing and mentioned my brother but they said it shouldnt be a problem? It is very odd will update when I know what its all about.Cheers for thoughts Slate
