Legality over interview process
Discussion
I'll be brief.
Had a first interview with company, went brilliantly, same values and thoughts on how to do the position, right experience, got on well with the guy, same sort of background, all as well as could be expected, and some.
Second interview arranged, more formal, with presentation to senior management, all fine until night before, spend 12 hours at hospital, pregnant wife has major event (I'll leave the details out, but i'm sure you can have a wild stab in the dark about what happened, and it was the worst outcome you could imagine) call first thing to re-arrange, chap says he'd call back to re-schedule. Chase and chase until email saying that they had taken on a different candidate and in his own words "with not as much experience as we would like".
Send email of disappointment, but no reponse. That was 3 days ago.
Fair? legal? ot should I just chalk it up. Feel pretty hard done by to be honest, presentation was written and ready to go, all I needed was a days' grace, and had been told all along that I was perfect for the role and he was excited about me potentially joining.
Not sure where to go to be honest.
Thoughts?
ETA - not sure why its got an 18 cerificate............!

It happens, I was given the software to familiarise myself with after a first interview, no second interview happened as the MD shipped the job abroad. Chalk it up to bad luck, a less experienced candidate could be cheaper, easier to mould to the companies methods and potentially more likely to stay against a man planning a family who could get eager to earn more.
But irrespective of how it feels to you the company will be able to justify their decision, I was listening to an independent HR guy who basically said the end result of all the discrimination legislation is that companies have become skilled at reverse engineering their decisions, start with I want them out or I want them hired then set your matrix to favour them. Also what do you want from them? I wouldn't want to work for them nowif they treated me the way they have treated you.

Sorry but you have to chalk this up to experience and move on.
You weren't offered the job and they could just get back in touch.
Do nothing that would sour that chance!
Good advice. You may have been 2nd best, but if the first candidate doesnt check out or changes his mind you could be in line. You might even want to say somehting along the lines of "I really wanted to work for you, so if the opportunity arrises please contact me". Cant hurt, and might helpYou weren't offered the job and they could just get back in touch.

Oh, and its very common for companies not to get in touch afterwards. Rude and annoying, but not illegal and not uncommon
