Classic car restoration courses/ Motorsport Courses - Jobs..
Discussion
Evening all,
I'm currently studying for a BTEC in Computing (National Diploma). However, I have decided that my passion lies where the money isn't. Cars. At the end of the end I plan on moving on from IT, although obtaining a decent grade out and would like to get involved in classic car restoration permanantly.
I realise there is a risk to this move, but I feel I should dip in where it suits me, not where the money lies.
Where would be the best place to get information about getting into car restoration or motorsport?
Are there apprenticeships on offer? If yes, are there any in Kent?
What skills would I need to work in classic car restoration or motorsport?
Is there anything else I need to know?
Cheers
Charlie

Hello there.I am currently working buying/restoring classic cars part time after serving a mercedes apprentiship and my advice is as follows.
Motorsport is very hard to get into unless you have contacts or good engineering back ground , apprentiship ect.
Its best i think to go and find a solid mechanical apprentiship and then try to switch to motorsport afterwards or try to find a car restoration company that wants to employ a young guy.
However its best to go for a big company as then afterwards you car allways work for a smaller chap,It is however difficult to go the other way.
I have been through all this and now work in factory engineering which provides good money which enables me to buy my own motorsport toys instead.
Anyhow Just be keen and apply for all you can and see what happens
You have a great website by the way with superb photography . Good luck rob
