Ok, before this gets moved onto employment law and forgotten, could anyone advise my other half how to deal with a work colleague.

She works with 2 other women in the office. One is an idle and lazy sod who has the office manager over a barrel, she has threatened to use the race card before if she doesn't get her way and he is acutely aware of it, she makes mistakes that he won't address, doesn't pull her wait and blames the others for her mistakes
Mrs Egg has 4 choices,

Raise a grievance against her (risky)

Raise one against the manager (who has had major bkings from the director due to the complaints against his office)

Go directly to the CO (dunno where that would go)

Take it to the Union (all are in the union so it could get messy)

Idle and lazy are emotive words. Suggest that if your wife is thinking of raising grievances against anyone then she needs to keep it factual and quote specific examples of behaviour.

How is she being disadvantaged by her colleagues actions?

My words not my wifes. It affects them by having to cover for her because she makes excuses not to do work, says she can't come in because she has to take her boys to Uni and College (17 and 21) she does what she wants to do and not what needs to be done, refuses to implement change to improve processes, not a team player, etc

Every office has someone like that.

My missus comes home cursing most days that if she hadn't stepped in and done such and such then they'd have missed a deadline. This is legal stuff so she thinks it's important. The problem is that no-one else gives a toss.

I'd go for this option. He's the problem, not her. Raise a complant (secretly if possible) airing your views backed up with examples.

Surely the company will have a 'whistle blowing' procedure so you can make a complain anonymously?
