Hi, I leave my current job shortly, with a start date for the new one not until Jan 11th.

I'm not going to sign on or anything as it's not worth it for a few weeks, but do I need to do anything to ensure my NI contributions are up to date?

Is there anything else I should be aware of?

I'm no expert but I was advised to sign on in order to keep the NI contributions up to date. The JSA wasn't a huge amount, but it seemed to save any NI hassles. I think though if you have your P45 in order then it should be fine not to do this.

Sign up - they'll pay it for you.

Otherwise, it depends on how long you want to not pay as to whether it affects pension entitlement.

If you are really worried, you can pay Class 3 Voluntary Contributions.
