I wonder if anyone can assist.
I'm contracted to 24hrs a week, but since March 09, I have been working full-time on an overtime basis. I've always been flexible to meet the needs of the business, regularly working shifts that are not my contracted hours on many days.

They are saying that they cannot give me a permanent contract for the hours - but is there any recourse for me on that matter? I feel I've been more than flexible for them and I'm not getting any reciprocation?

Probably something to do with them having to pay more basic wages (35 hour week guaranteed), significantly more NI for a permanent contract employee and possibly incurring pension payments once you are "permanent". The firm currently having the flexibility to chop your hours to the minimum in your current ocntract if they see the need to which suits them, but not you.

Doubt if you have any come back if they don't want to offer you a full time contract. Having said that if you are getting OT after 24 hours are you not better off than getting nornal rates for 35 hours and OT after that ?

Sadly I don't get any more for OT than I would if I was contracted to the hours.

Thanks for your thoughts - it is in line with my suspicions!

Is this an employment contract or some other form of contract?

What does it say in your contract about overtime?
