Whilst I had applied for a job as an entry level Investment Analyst, due to a company merger the position is no longer available.

Is there somewhere in particular that I should be looking for jobs of this nature?

I am finding precious little on the generic job sites (Reed & Monster etc).

Thanks.

Any thats a little better:

Does it absolutely have to be Investment Analysis? Entry level or whatever?

What is your skill set?

Why move in at entry level?

What is you motivation for doing so?

what makes you think you can make it?

Age? (im allowed to be ageist on here, most agencies and bankers arent, but are).

have you tried:

www.efinancialcareers.com/
www.jobserve.com/
www.jobsite.co.uk

I also have a list of recruiters that are good and bad if you want the list (not sure Im allowed to place it on here) made up of the ones who are stty and dont reply to you ever and those that tell you why you didnt get the job what to do next time, etc.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Investment Analyst although that was the role that appealed to me. This also happened to be in Reigate (Surrey) which is close to where I live.

With regards to looking for entry level roles, I have no previous experience in this industry & thought it realistic looking at entry level positions.

I am 25 & have worked mostly in the travel industry. Most recent role in Product Development involving costings, projections, rate negotiations, marketing & company reviews.

My motivation is that it is something I have wanted to do for a while & that I like the thought of potential future prospects.

Thank you.

You do realise the amount of work involved? Very long hours not much social life?

What kind of degree do you have? Red brick?

Its cut throat trying to get into an investment bank at the moment, would you be prepared to look at London?

Educated to A level standard only (I realise this seems to be the minimum standard required & for many not enough). Is the lack of a degree really a major stumbling block in real world terms?

I would consider studying for one whilst working if the option was available.

Long hours I can cope with, I do currently.

Yes, I would certainly consider London.

Education could be a stumbling block, I still get turned down for only having a 2.2 drinking degree from a non redbrick uni, but have 9 years finance experience in the IT industry. Strangely enough I got turned down from a junior roll due to education but got an interview as the senior bod over the junior person.

I wonder if there are any other IB people that could give a different answer, but it might be worth contacting the hedge funds direct and asking them, as well as looking at graduate schemes in major banks. (not sure if you qualify but what the hell)

Thanks for your input.

The list you mentioned may prove useful so if you could send a copy over to me (address through my profile) I would be grateful.

Have a look at www.cityjobs.com

Set yourself up a profile with CV and then create an auto search for roles with the correct words in the job description ie: Analyst. The web site will then send you through regular (sometimes 2 or 3 a day) emails with roles matching your requirements. There will be some cross-over with business analyst roles but you soon get the hang of scanning out the noise.

Just remember that Dupont is right and 90+% of agencies will give you no feedback at all and drop your application if they do not get a positive response from their client. If any adverts come up with a role you feel you are suited to try to ring the agency direct (details usually on ad, or a quick Google will get an office number) rather than apply via the web site process. That way you can talk to someone and send your CV to their personal email address rather than the group address it will arrive at via the automatic process.

If you have seen a role in Reigate it is almost certainly with Fidelity. Have a look at their web site as they do recruit directly and you can talk to their HR team. Deutsche Bank are also currently recruiting directly via their web site and you can register your interest and CV for roles going forward.

Regard almost all agencies as pond life and/or oxygen thieves biggrin

Best of luck
