if your under 30, you can go on a working holiday visa. I got mine (as go 99% of people) through BUNAC (googleable) and i'm there at the moment. It seems if you get "sponsored" by your empolyer, you can stay longer. Or if you have cirtain jobs, you can try stay longer (in bc anyway) which i was planning on doing, but the HR woman at work tells me theyre not doing it so much any more, as there isn't really enough jobs for canadians, let alone bloody immigrants. I feel like i'm polish or something.
Another vote for the Bunac option, I'm currently filling out the forms which need to be in by month end to get out there before 2011.

PS you think that 10 months is poor, prior to the 38 reserved occupations list for PR you had to wait 6years, which is what's kept me from applying for 5 years.

If i were you, i might double check that? i started my application when i got laid off in may, and was on the 31st of may flight last year.(which i didnt actually make cos i broke my hand on the 27th, but i was booked for the flight...)Simon

I'm not planning to go the moment the letter gets issued as I'm trying to build up some more funds. Looking now at heading over in June since that fits well with my current project assignment terminating at my work.RichBurley said:

For me, I have lots of friends there, I like the scenery, several of my hobbies are easier to pursue there and as with anywhere it's something different to the UK (not saying it's better or worse).Personally I've never understood the attraction of Australia, so I think some places call to you some don't which is just as well or we'd all be living in the same place, and you know what that'd do to housing market.

A quicker route is to get a job offer from a canadian company and then get a work permit for up to 3 years. the only problem with this scenario is that canadian employers are tending to favour local folks currently, what with the economic down turn and all. Could you for example go out on a holiday visa, sort a job and get a temp work permit to continue working there (ie Sponsorship)?

This process would normally take 6-8 weeks
You can visit canada for 6 months, in which time you could look for a job i suppose, however you would need to prove to immigration on entry that you were intending to leave in 6 months.
