Titles not reflecting roles, changing them on the CV

Following my redundancy I have been on the job hunt and at two recent interviews a similar comment was made.
I have had the title of Product Manager for a few roles now but I have performed a role more akin to the likes of Trade Marketing Manager or Marketing Manager, since my redundancy from the last role my colleagues have been retitled as Trade Marketing Managers.
So my question is what's the score with me amending my titles on my CV to be more inline with the roles I have performed?
Constructive thoughts appreciated, I should point out this will not effect seniority.

If you did those jobs, then you put them down. Depending on what sort of job you are applying for you tailor your CV to that. You can pick and choose what job title to give the role you previously did. All that matters is that you can justify it at your interview, i.e. you can walk what you just talked!
Ok well in short all I'm thinking of adding is Product Marketing Manager
Reading your reply DJC you seem to think this is ok, I am not claiming something I have not done. There is no intent to mis-represent my self here.
I have simply noticed that due to the volume of CV's allot of people are just scanning titles first time round and I'm slipping through the net for no reason other than that.

I had to tweak my last job title. My official title was 'Application Support Specialist', (Great acronym huh!?!?), but I was also heavily involved in design and deployment too.
Because of the title, a lot of potential employers wouldn't consider me for project work thinking that I only supprted solutions.
So I've changed it to 'Application Deployment and Support Specialist'. That did the trick.

Over time, job titles change, new roles emerge as industry changes.
Consider helping the potential employer by doing something like:
Jan 2007 - Oct 2009 Product Manager (Trade Marketing or whatever).
Jan 2006 - Dec 2007 Product Manager (Product Development or whatever).
That way you would be giving the true title (therefore not lying) but be able to reflect a little more detail
