What job would you do?
Discussion
You are 23, no real qualifications, been working as a commercial carpet tile fitter for 2 years but no jobs around. You have a full licence (for over a year) and really want to work.
what would you do? I am trying to tell him to get a career of some sort rather than drift from job to job. Its been a long time since I was that age and I do not really know whats available. He is good with people and would do well at a job that involves working on his own or with another person in a mobile enviroment such as AA/RAC or Autoglass person etc.
Help Please

I'm a little older than him at 28, but how would he feel about joining the fire service? Not easy to get in but a great job, decent wages, good camaraderie and secure. If he wants to do carpet fitting on the side then he'll have the time to do so.
Alternatively offshore work seems to be popular. Few hoops to jump through with regards to H&S but might be some work out there?
I joined the police at 23. In one sense it was a good move, in another i'm not so sure.

Thanks for your input, we have discussed the Police and Fire service but in the area there is no recruitment at present.
I am a bit out of touch because when I left school you either went in an office of building site. I am sure there is much more out there. I would add that he doesnt have any funds to pay for courses etc

Why good in a mobile environment? Also, does he want to stay in a similar trade? Does he know any chippys etc who mgiht want to take him on and train him up?I'm in the same boat, but now 28
Signed onto a course at the local college (three years) to train as a sparky, starts in September. I just hope I can find a job that lets me afford rent and study in the evening.
It's a reality check not having any real qualifications when things go a bit wonky. I'm struggling to even get an interview for the most basic jobs (think commercial window cleaning / factory / delivery driver). The longer I'm not working, the harder it gets.
With that said, if anyone needs a worker in Leeds . . . . I'll do nearly anything.

Honestly?
Id sell everything and leave the country. If I had enough money Id buy a boat capable of sailing across an ocean as opposed to just tootling up the coast and just bugger off. Wouldnt even look back once.
Now back to the people that don't have a "family bank" to fall back on Id sell everything and leave the country. If I had enough money Id buy a boat capable of sailing across an ocean as opposed to just tootling up the coast and just bugger off. Wouldnt even look back once.

There are so many people in this sort of situation now it's untrue
A lot of graduates, who have been at uni for 3-4 years, got in to a shed load of debt and now can't get a job in that field are pretty much in the same boat. Yes they might have a degree but how much use is that nowadays, they are a ten a penny
I have a job, but I hate it and I mean really hate it to the point where it is extremely depressing. I have thought about the RAF and will be going to speak to them next week. Does that interest him? Not sure what sort of jobs will be open to him in terms of the qualifications required etc but there would be no harm going to speak to his local RAF spot. Same goes for the Navy I suppose, I'd love to work as Search and Rescue but it isn't that simple to get in to.

He could even generate his own work."I put the fire out but your carpets are ruined. Here is my card.."
