Having an employment contract.

In my last job I did not have an employment contract per se (as far as I can tell), I had a 'conditions of service'. What are the legal ramifications of this?
And what did the "conditions of service" cover? All details about your employment? I would say that IF your conditions of service did contain all details of employment etc then it would be deemed a contract - or you could use Street v Mountford (I hope I've remembered the right case) to say it is.
Are you a full time employee as well?
I was full-time for over two years. I have been told that my conditions of service 'are your employment contract' by someone from HR. However, they are very brief. Basically I may have to enter a dispute regarding being paid for holiday which was not taken, but there is very little in the conditions about holiday, how it is accrued, rest days in lieu, when you lose it if you don't take it, etc. etc.
Section 1 of Employment Rights Act states what should be in the written statement
