Tax Codes Etc..
Discussion
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help..
I've just recieved this months pay slip (May '10) and the code is (627T CUM), last month was the same and I also recieved this tax code (April '10), and I also received my P60 this month too.
The month before, March '10 I was on (647L CUM).. Does anyone know why its changed?
T If there are any other items we need to review in your tax code, for example the income-related reduction to the Personal Allowance (read more in the section 'Effect on your tax code if your income is above £100,000')
Is what HMRC says, but I'm definately not earning £100,000.. More like £12,500..

You'll need to provide a bit more detail, but there should be an itemised breakdown of how they got to your tax code.
Something has been deducted from your personal allowances with a value of around £200 - your PAYE code should tell you what that is.
T is the flag they put on your code when they expect to have to make an adjustment from year to year, e.g. for tax being reclaimed through your PAYE code, medical benefit, adjustments for savings income, etc., etc.
I haven't got any other income, though I did have a second part time job from May 2009>Feburary 2010 but I was paying tax on those wages as I always got taxed more than everyone else there.
On my P60 its got..
Pay & Income Tax this year; £11352.93
Tax deducted; £974.60
Is that the information you need?

I think the first bit about you having two jobs might be what is causing the adjustment to your tax code. But you should have been send a form (can't remember what it's called) which shows your personal allowance at the top and then the deductions from that to get to your net allowances, and the resulting PAYE code.
If you haven't got one, give HMRC a call and ask them to explain what's in your PAYE code because it may be that the adjustment they have included is wrong or can be removed. Which would give you a few quid extra each month.
The tax calc looks a little on the high side, and I suspect it doesn't take into account your earnings from the other job. So probably worth checking the two and seeing whether you're due a refund (looks, on the fact of it, that you possibly are).
Sorted!
They still had me down as 2 jobs, (Even though I left the other in Feburary..) and so they said they had to re-assess it at the end of the year.
I told them I only have one job now, and they've changed the code and say I've paid too much tax and will get it back in my wages.
Probably won't be much but hey!
