Where to Graduates look for jobs

We're after a couple of graduate sales account manager trainees. I'm looking to advertise directly as well as using our existing Grad Sales recruitment partners.

My question is, where to grads look for jobs these days?

Depending on how quick you need the grad, universities have careers offices that may allow you to advertise, local papers, professional magazines.

There used to be a graduate magazine .. Prospectus, or something like that .. it was full of vacancies for people who didn't make the milkround, which i guess is a very likely outcome in today's climate.

I passed the pareto assessment day pretty easily, although most people do not and complain it's a waste of time. They never found me a job within the areas I was looking but the business model is good and they seem popular with some fairly big graduate employers.

I'm looking around at alternatives to staying in the Police. Sure its a secure job and in this current climate, a lot of people would give their right arm for it, but when you know something might not be for you, then I cant see the point in just doing it because its secure.

I dont know about you, but I'm still wondering where to go with my career.

Ironically I am 100% in your situation.

I applied for the police in January 2009, I have my final fitness test on monday and medical/stab vest fitting the week after.

I know I would love the job. 5000 people applied in january 2009 2% got through to the assessment centre and 1% of the original 5000 passed that (including me).

Last week however I got offered a new job which has thrown my whole thoughts on my life all over the place again.

It is similar to what I am doing now, however considerably more exciting, the sort of job that you wonder how that bd got it.

Now I dont know what to do.

The new job pay more than the police salary even after 10 years of service, but it's still a hard decision.

GSP what is it that you do at the moment?

At the moment I work in construction doing coordination type stuff.

Incredibly boring, office base.

The new job is based from home, site and offshore

I advertised on graduate-jobs.com and had a fantastic response and have just placed a couple of grads on my team.

I also advertised on various London uni site but more of a mixed response.

Ive had CVs on a variety of sites, and have been looking around for something which interests me, but I've had no reply to anything. I dont want a typical 9-5 office job, I'd like something which involves field work or moving from site to site. It doesnt help that other than a bit of sales experience, all I have is my Police work since university.

Had the exact same feeling as you. Well paid job at one of the biggest 5 companies in the world with massive opportunities for promotion etc, but it just doesn't have that spark. Every day felt like I was selling my soul, working just for the cash. I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my working life there.

So I decided to throw it in and take a gamble with something else. Don't know how it will pan out, but imo its worth the gamble.


P.S. For the OP, milkround is very popular with graduates
