Saturation Diving?

Just wondering what are the possibilities of getting into saturation diving at a young age?

What courses would I need (already have MIST, BOSIET and Banksman/slinging stage1) to be able to get into this?

Is there any work out there for these companies, assuming I wouldn't have a close contacts?

Any advice appreciated,

I would say that wouldnt it be better to have a few years under your belt first before trying to run as expierence is everything.

Havent you just sailed theough all the PADI exams?

How many dives now? 300-400 rec dives?

It's me.

I have just become a PADI instructor. Worked hard, not sailed through

I just did some research and emailed a few contacts I had, I will not be following this idea/career up any time soon, £10k+ for the courses for only* £200ish per day.

Obviously if I did start now I would be getting on to the ladder, but there doesn't seem to be alot of work about at the moment, so I think the money would be better spent.

Yeah haven't logged dives for a few months but my computer is showing about 250 so probably nearer 350-400. Plus another 50 i have done over the last 2 months since been back on holiday in Cyprus.

• Obviously £200 per day is a reasonable amount but for dangerous work and pretty stting hours and the initial cost it doesn't seem that much at the start.

your gonna have to start at the bottom which means inshore diving for 3 to 5 years then if your lucky and work picks up,very quiet just now with recession on then you might get a start offshore air diving for 3 to 5 years then you can go and do your saturation diving course again no guarantees of work also you would be more employable if you get imca diver medic and cswip 3.1 & 3.2 inspection courses
prices air diver course around £12000 9 weeks
sat diver course £16500 3 weeks
diver medic £700 2 weeks
cswip £6000 2 weeks
take into account loss of earnings during courses and accom. and food to pay for

prices are estimates a few schools around churning out divers and little work around

what Subsea99 says. I have several mates in the marine construction and commercial diving industry, most are ex sat divers who now do the commercial side.

Clients like Shell will not even entertain a diver on project unless he has a minimum of 5 years experiance.

You have to start at the stty end and work up.

Ohh and apparently PADI means square root of f'k all in the commercial world too, apparently.

Start with air diving perhaps.

xjs john has hit the nail on the head you can throw that padi log book out when you enter the commercial industry,and all these schools will tell you what you want to hear saying yeah there is loads of work,dont forget they are a business and out to make money so will tell you what you want to hear,even the civils side of the diving is quiet in uk as local government have cut back on projects same with the offshore side of things all the big oil companies have put a lot of projects on hold for now
