Strike imminent
Discussion
Advice please from the PH massive. At my workplace the drivers are about to have a 1 day strike, followed by a work to rule and possibly more strikes. They’re not happy that they are being offered 1.5% while the directors are getting over 20%. I know that a couple of them are not too keen on this action and just want to carry on working . If they do can the union or employer do anything to them? When I asked the union guy he said that “the union will get them fired” as no one would work with them. Now that doesn't seem right. Just remembered, what about the drivers who are not in the union? Where do they stand? Anyway, thanks for making it to the end and feel free to criticise my spelling and grammar.

Plenty more to come, but paragraphs would be the best place to start. Otherwise, not bad. 7/10I know that a couple of them are not too keen on this action and just want to carry on working . Ignoring the Troggs since the closed shop was banned under Margaret Thatcher you can't be fired for not doing what the Union wants - the worst that can happen is the picket line can shout 'scab' at you and people you don't ;like much will take you off their Christmas Card list
What staff have been told by the Union people about being sacked is intimidation and illegal If witnesses can be found it's more likely that those making the threats will be sacked

There's not a lot that any Union can do if you wish ( as a non union worker) to go into work . Of course you may wish not to accept the increased wages and conditions that the union has won. This is when I feel that those non union members are being short sighted . Think your union guy is being a bit non helpful - most unions will extend union rights ( over harassment ) for support of a strike to non members who back them and try to elicit support ( to asking those not willing to support to take holidays) .But don't forget - management has to extend the same rights to you as to union members ( but you've got less clout ,except in law) .The worst that can happen to the union members who don't strike is the union chucks them out.
The other stuff is intimidation and harassment i.e. bullying and is more likely to result in the Union guy being sacked than the 'victim', anything which results in physical contact or the victim feeling in danger of physical harm could also be persued down the criminal lines although it's unlikely to run if it;s just s.39 common assault ( assuming the 'union guy' doesn't upset Plod and lengthens his charge sheet )

Why give the directors 20% AND let the drivers know that ?If all the drivers quit on the spot, would the company fold ? as suspect the directors can't drive trucks

maybe even out the money, inflation around 5%, so a pay cut sucks
As others have said, nobody can be made to strike. The unfairness in the pay awards is massive and for the directors to make it known to the workforce is stupid and they deserve it if their workforce to walk away.
In difficult times it is even more important to show a "we are in it together attitude" giving themselves 20% isn't going to do this.
