Part time Courier!?

Hi guys,

I have recently been offered a part time courriers job, the average driving around in a combo van delivering stuff type thing.

Whereas, to me this is more interesting than sitting in a shop selling things, my reason for starting this thread is, I have no experience whatsoever being a courier, are there any catches to the job I should be aware that could leave me vulnerable after an accident, does my pay get docked if I'm late delivering something due to traffic or something out of my control? Or something along those lines for example?

I just wanted to check with the P/H guys before accepting the job offer.

Yep that is my next step, but I've just literally been offered the job over the phone.

So until I go into the courier office I don't have a copy of the contract yet .

... you make a good point.

Was just seeing if there were any couriers on here that had any tips or could advise me on things I am likely not to know or may have forgotten to take into account.

The one thing I'd check is whether you get paid per drop or an hourly rate.

I suspect you might have to factor in having to re-deliver some items a couple of times (due to the customer being out) before getting paid.

If the boss suggests you should be able to deliver a certain number of packages a day and hence be earning £x take it with a pinch of salt.
