The LEGAL way to record a Dept of W&P interview.

Looking for advice on above, I have been summoned for a meeting that isn't going to be beneficial (ha ha I don't get anything)and am looking for advice on how to record the interview for my own purposes.

Take a recorder (one for recording stuff, not one for playing tunes when you're 8 years old ). Take it out, put it on the table, turn it on, say "I'm quite slow at writing so it'd take ages for me to take my own notes - I'll just record it all instead."

What mobile phone do you have? The last thee i've owned have all had dictophones built in.

You can always just go No Comment all the way through. Or just leave if they refuse to let you record it. You've got nothing to lose I'd imagine, and everything to gain by having a fair and accurate account of the proceedings.

Is it under caution? If so IIRC they have to provide you with a copy of the tape I think.

In any event I would insist on being allowed to make a record of the interview and if they refuse I would be taking long and laborious detailed notes.

Your position, which only you really know, will dictate how belligerent or complicit you are. Remember that this lot are pros and when i sat in on a few many moons ago as a trainee was impressed at how much better they were than the local CID...
