USA Field Service Engineer, working from home
To provide both on-site and remote engineering support for automation products, primarily in the USA and in Europe as required. Work as an integral part of the overall service delivery capability and a key part of a successful client relationship.
• Act as first and second line support for field installed base of automation products, including fault finding and rectification.
• Responsible for maintaining fault finding data, and feedback of product data to customers and internal groups.
• Follow all service procedures and usage of support tools to ensure that customer information and product configuration is up to date and accurate.
• Keep accurate records of time, expense and work performed
• Make independent decisions regarding the repair of field equipment balancing judgement, cost feasibility, and risk
• Acquire in-depth product knowledge and demonstrated self-improvement
• Installation and commissioning, and customer training of products as required.
• Liaison with the Product Support Engineers, Customer Support Engineers and the Hardware Resource Co-ordinator.
• To install product hardware and software upgrades to customer equipment and obtain customer signed acceptance.
• Participate in the after-hours rotational on-call schedules
Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering. Formal training in hardware set-up and configuration (PLC and Windows/NT operating environments). Field engineering experience would be considered in lieu of a formal qualification.
• Extensive proven experience of working in a test or field service/support environment within high- tech engineering/manufacturing company – ideally on capital equipment or special purpose machines
• Experience of electrical and mechanical fault-finding at system and component level
• Understanding of automatic mechanisms and their associated electrical control systems
• Previous experience of operating on-call/call-out/immediate travel, both in and out of normal working hours.
