Evening all. Has anyone come across IPS Global Network before with regards to recruitment? I was called up by them and asked if I would be interested in signing up. Long and the short is that for a small fee, they'll sniff out jobs. Personally I think it's bull but the mail they sent through looks convincing (but then glossy literature is easy to produce). Apparently their registered office is on a trading estate just outside Aylesbury. However, according to the trading estate website their offices are available for rent. http://www.westcottventurepark.com/resources/build...

Any thoughts?

Hi,

I have just spoken to them, and would love to know what you think. Their website is rubbish, and their search facility did not work when the nice lady showed it, but if they account managers are good, and they get back to the old days of recruiters caring about us the people looking for the job then it can only be a good thing.

I might try them for a month.

Welcome to PH Simeon.

I'm somewhat sceptical about IPS and had hoped that someone on here might have something to say. The chap I spoke to suggested that I have a dig around to see if I could find anything out about them. Agencies which call me up at 7pm and say that I should have a sniff around set off alarm bells.

The digging has uncovered the following....

Their registered office appears to be a unit (which is currently available for rent) on a shabby looking industrial estate outside of Aylesbury in Bucks.
The STD code on their literature is for Orpington in Kent.
BT seem to say that they have an office which appears as though it might be above a shopping parade in Orpington.
The number which BT provided and the one on their literature is not the same. (Possibly not the same business?)
A Whois lookup on their domain name shows that the registered owner for their website is a company called Sycamore. Sycamore appears to be a firm of accountants.
The registration also shows that the address where the domain is registered to is residential.
In their literature they offer domain / country specific e-mail addresses for candidates. Oddly .SG (Singapore) is missing. Singapore is one of the main financial hubs for SE Asia and I was surprised that they weren't offering a mail address for Singapore.

I'm not saying that they're not a valid business, but I was asked to dig around. At this point in time I won't be taking them up on their offer to find me employment as there are far too many loose ends for my liking. If you do happen to take them up on their offer and they do a good job, please update this thread.

thanks for the update - I just asked them to send me 3 suitable roles, and if they were good I would be happy to sign. They have sent me the same thing as I would get from any cold email - where they have not even taken 5 minutes to look at my CV. I think it is not worth it, they are now offering Professional Indemnity for the price, but I am not convinced it's a great price.

I just keep struggling to know, 1 how they make enough money to survive, and 2 how they can offer me any help what so ever - I am not paying enough to get a dedicated account manager, so if there is 1 acount manager with 30 clients, how is he going to help anyone?

Like you, I don't want to put them down, but just don't get enough good feelings about it, I have only been looking since before Christmas so give it another month and if I have not found something I'll probably give them a call - let's hope it does not come to it!!

Thanks

I got a call from IPS Global Network on 4th January early morning. I first thought they are a recruitment agency; the caller convinced me that if I get registered with them they will send my CV directly to end client and somebody from the technical team in the end client will review my CV. That sounds interesting, although I am never out of work for more than a week in the last two years but I have found there are some roadblocks to enter investment banking contracts. The agencies do not send CVs if somebody does not have the domain exposure although in a technical role like Oracle DBA business/functional knowledge is not required. I bought the caller's argument as he told the CV will be directly sent to end client. Later I had an over phone demo in late evening on the same day and paid £23.99 as membership fee. Everything was fine till this point but after I got the Login details I found the jobs they have published all had been published weeks before in Jobserve. That caused doubt in my mind and some online investigation about this organisation was not promising. They seem started only few months before and even their boss posted ad for recruitment consultants who could make 100-150 cold calls to the candidates on daily basis. I immediately realised I made a mistake, somebody called me next day appearing as Account Manager and I told her straight forward that I do not want to continue and please terminate my membership and refund the fee. She tried to convince and somebody of her colleague called several times and tried to convince but I stick to my point that I do not need their service and want the membership fee refunded ASAP. She called a week later and told money will be credited to my account and sent an email regarding same. And finally the fee gets refunded on Monday this week.
And I get back to contract from 6th Jan without their help smile

Sounds like I made the right decision by not taking them up on their offer. Good luck with the new job.

Hi,

I just signed up for a forum account as I received a call from these guys today.

I did my research online first but couldn't find anything apart from this thread.

But then again, even for reputable recruiters such as Harvey Nash, there aren't a whole load of reviews online.

I'm prepared to check them out and give them a chance, see what happens. I'm not paying any money yet, and it's free until they find you a suitable contract.

I'll keep my blog updated with more info about them: http://www.ciscocontractor.com/ips-global-network-...

Hello All,

Although they have refunded my Monthly Subscription fee but somebody from IPS Global network still call me offering service. I told them categorically that I am not interested for their service but it seems they randomly choose people from Jobsites and give cold calls. Sent an email to the account manager..let see what happen now?

I tend to avoid any company whose slogan is comprised of such poor English: "We search more job boards harder, We filter more contracts smarter, We deliver more opportunities faster". Oh really? I suppose all my base are belong to you.

I also avoid signing up to 12-month contracts with newly formed private limited companies who haven't yet filed any accounts or a company report. For such a young company, they should be offering the first contract for nothing and then relying on their good service to keep customers interested.

Their terms and conditions had some lovely clauses too...

"4.1. Once the email address and your full payment details have been entered in the database no refund will be payable by IPS Global Network Ltd and a minimum contract term of 12 months will apply."

"7. IPS Global Network shall not be liable to you with respect of any general or special damages, loss of profits and/or for any special, indirect, incidental or consequential loss or damage arising out of or in connection with your use of our service."

"9. If IPS Global Network changes the terms of this agreement, then IPS Global Network will notify all members at least 10 days before the changes are effected. Notification shall be deemed effective when made via email or by posting a notice on the IPS Global Network Website."

Finally, here's the information on them at Companies House, to save you searching:

I would never sign up for an agency that asked for a joining fee.

As a recruiter, I know how damn hard it is to find good candidates, the recruitment industry wouldn't exist otherwise. I also know that these candidates are worth good money. Around 20% of the salary they agree on if I find them a job. So why would I want to charge them for sending their CV to me?

I know in some industries and some places it's more normal, but I would say 9 times out of 10 it's a crock of st, and you'll just end up sat on a database somewhere, a bit poorer, and probably receiving junk mail from them and their associates every so often.

That address is worth a look up on googlemaps. Let's just say that the building that they are supposed to inhabit is a little at odds with their literature.

Idle curiosity but what industries do you recruit for?

Sure, can you start next Monday?

Unfortunately it's very difficult to get expat jobs here - most of the foreigners working on cushy all expenses paid numbers are sent here by their group rather than hired locally, but it does happen.

Rifles through diary... Finds empty pages.

Yes, I think I could start next Monday. How much of a pain is the visa?

Visas aren't that bad really. Companies are quite well equipped to sort that out, but there is a limit on how many work permits a company can have. Basically there has to be 4 Thai employees for every foreigner. Hence most banks limit themselves to only those foreigners who have some very specialist skill that is not available locally.

If you're in Risk, Operations or really know your way around Basel II then there are opportunities. You're still more likely to get sent here from London by one of the big MNC banks though.

Singapore might be a different story, lots of foreigners working there, but I've no idea what the visa rules are like or how easy it is to get hired as a foreigner there.
