You don't have to include your DOB on your CV and employers are not allowed to discriminate on the basis of age. If you feel they have, post-interview, then you can raise this with the appropriate bodies.

Edit - I don't believe it's illegal for them to ask; only if they discriminate on the basis of the reply.

Correct. However people of "attractive employment age" still tend to.

As stated before asking about an applicants age will leave you open to possible litigation from anyone you ask - best avoided.

Hardly daft.

It's Legal to ask if someone's Black, gay and/or a ginger - but to not give them a job because of it is illegal.

That's why best practice is to not ask.

You can always not offer the job once you've interviewed the old ginger black lesbian winkbiggrin
