Hello

I'm a general assistant at a Store until I get some money built up since leaving uni. Last week a notice was put up in the staff room stating "we are looking to appoint a relief supervisor to cover holiday periods and absence. Please apply in writing before 10th Feb etc. etc."

Apart from the usual stating you are interested, your experience and why you think you are suitable, is there anything else important I'm missing out that could be included to sway them further or make a greater impression?

Also should it be laid out completely in standard letter format?

Yes it should be laid out in a formal letter format IMO (and then handed to a manager or whatever in a proper envelope.

TBH when we advertise internally, we are looking for a CV and covering letter as you would for any other job.
