I am being considered for a position in Afghanistan working with NATO in Kandahar.the wages are tax free but I wouldn't know how to go about getting the money back into the UK without losing that status etc or whether its a viable proposition to work there. Im not adverse to working abroad having lived for many years away in various countries. Does anyone on here have any advise?

Learn to spell? If you earn salary whilst a non-UK tax resident, that previously earned salary does not suddenly become subject to UK tax when you move back to the UK,
Obviously, if you invest the money you save when abroad in a UK bank, the interest it generates will be subject to UK tax - but the original wages won't.

Two helpful answers and a mob visit from the spelling police.
Thanks to Eric and Alex on behalf of the OP
The others have kindly reminded the OP of the reason they don't post here much at all these days, way to go
Agree, exactly the sort of members we don't need. Seems to be a very fine line on here now with being funny and being downright unhelpful so and so's (polite version).

Good luck OP I also had wondered this as abroad working is something I would consider in future for pure and simple reason of boosting funds and is very common in the industry I work in.

It could very well be that this is tax-free in the UK by virtue of one of the clauses in a double taxation agreement (or some other 'treaty' which precludes the taxation of employees of certain organisations) relating to particular government organisations (can't recall the specifics - been a while since I've had to look at this sort of thing) but I've seen something similar with government related contracts in certain countries.Obviously, if you invest the money you save when abroad in a UK bank, the interest it generates will be subject to UK tax - but the original wages won't.
In other words, it could be free of tax without him needing to be non-resident.
But would need to check the details because, like I say, it's been a while since I've had to look at this sort of thing, but could be the case here.
