I’m thinking of a career change and have considered many many options and I’m considering becoming a PI. If anyone is a PI or knows a PI that can give me some idea of what the job is like or what it entails can you please give me a shout.

Thanks Shaun

I knew one, most of the time he was serving court papers, the odd time he was employed by a person to watch their partners he spent hours sitting in his car outside a house.

He was bored rigid.

Fab thread. In other news I was thinking of becoming a clairvoyant, has anyone got next weeks lottery numbers?

Sure: 6 15 17 23 24 31

I went to PI school but I just couldn't master a convincing American accent and so I was expelled frown

No, they are genuinely the winning numbers for the next draw.

I'll buy a ticket with those numbers on it. If you're right, you're going to kick yourself!

Did you seriously expect anythign else?

I think most PI's are ex cozzers who can't get work as security guards cause they're too old and/or fat.

I did consider it myself once, I fired off a few emails with CV to local companies but no response.

I was going to up my game by offering weekend working for free so I could learn the ropes/meet people e.t.c while still in my other job. I am convinced that doing this may yhave got me somewhere I just didn't try hard enough.

Your profile lists you as a restaurant manager/wine merchant, which is hardly the best training for a private investigator. What did you expect?

I know a guy in Edinburgh who used to be a prison guard, got early retirement on health grounds at 45 and tried to get work doing this sort of thing, had a good knowledge of local "faces" from his work in Shotts. Spent a bit of time trying to get involved but failed miserably.

Think he works in a bailiffs office now. That might be your best bet...

Have you tried contacting local PI firms to ask what kind of background/skills they require? If it was me, this would be my first port of call. smile
