A thread over on the Porsche section has stumbled it's way round to the 1M (it started out as lap times for the Cayman R, but this is PH after all, so digression is the norm..)

Anyhow, it got me looking for /at these cars - back in July I enquired about getting one only to be told they'd all sold, and even if I found one second hand it would be at a premium.

Roll on to now, and there's a page and a half on PH full of them and starting at less than £39k with 5k miles.

Can someone enlighten me as to why people are trying to get out of them?
The ones for sale don't even appear (to my limited knowledge of 'M's) to have any sort of premium on the price.

I heard about an independent dealer who's been offered nearly 20 in the last month.

I thought there were only 500 of them in the country, I have personally already seen 10 of them, black, white and orange.

No real answers yet though, a few postulations about folk trying to turn them around for a quick buck but I'm not really buying that.

At least your thread is in the right place, we might get a better answer here!

I can't really see it being down to speculators either.
Certainly, the prices don't seem to be holding enough for anyone to have made much, if anything.

I was seriously considering swapping my 993 for one, but I won't be now. Got to set my sights a little lower.

I've test driven two of these so far albeit 3 months apart and still can't make my mind up - to me the car on both occasions although quick just didn't involve me at all. On the most recent test drive, i deliberately went in a much slower car to try and get a real comparison as oppose to driving down in the Z4MC which could be argued as being is a much closer comp there by distorting my judgement....

Soon after that, i met up with someone who had test driven one a few weeks before at another dealer and his opinion was exactly as mine.. [fast, tactile, capable, effortless.. but not really engaging] . Believe he now has his eyes set on an M3 saloon as it felt more engaging esp that V8 growl combined with an 8200rpm scream....

For me, with one eye on the risk of depreciation and the other on presumable "just as if not more" capable cheaper alternatives in the E92 which can be had for less that £25k if you looked or haggled like Del-boy smash- the 1M's current price point along with the mixed reactions i got from both T/drive, I've decided to sit on the fence a little longer.

These are just my opinions at the mo - i may well find myself owning one hopefully after some else has swallowed some of the depreciation early next year or laterlaugh

I'd rather be in a Z4MC than an E92 M3.

The M3 is in comparison a dull car IMO. It's a great motor but for me a Z4MC or 1M please.

The 1M is also one of the most up for it cars i've ever driven. I am shocked at how good the 1M is.

I thought I would hate it but actually I love it.

It's power is so accessible, the grip, the turn in, power out, gear change all makes for a real fun car. 30mpg and lag that's barely noticable with decent throttle response.

Yeah it's a bit low rent inside and a little nervous at speed. Feedback could be a tad better and the ride a little less jiggly but it gives more smiles than an E92 hands down.

Not as quick as my Z4 though wink

Probably not the best thread on which to mention it (although i suppose it makes a point)... we've had a cancellation on a build slot. Although it's for a legit reason I suppose (the guy was just made redundant).
Still totally configurable (spec can be changed) and for one of the last cars being produced (in February/March). If interested, give me a buzz!

I'll join ya. Budge up smile

I reckon a 1M will be my next car. Soon. Lots available used. Even the odd *new* one. Pricing is a sore point atm on these. No one seems to know what to do with them - from a £50k private sale.. to £40k for a 2k mile 61 plate car with nav, from Sytner BMW. wobble

I know it's too much of a "finger in the air" exercise to be reliable, but does anyone happen to know what guaranteed future values BMW are attributing to these on PCP deals?

In July I was given a residual of £14k after 3 years on a £45k list price.

Not great for those that bought new, but great for subsequent buyers.

Not necessarily ouch, depending on how the residual values hold up. If they stay strong then there will be a lot of equity for the owner to use towards there next car.

True, but that's a chance I wasn't prepared to take!
You only have to look at the values of E9X M3's. (I know the 1 is limited, but...)
