why do alot of these cars that are cat d right offs advertise it is unrecorded? to whose benefit is this?

An unrecorded one can be used to ring a stolen car, or I guess you could break it for parts then claim it was stolen.

That's right. Giving a stolen car a new identity and selling it on while stripping this one down for parts. There will be people who do this sort of thing and won't think twice about offering £5k and towing it away.
