E39 M5 wheel alignment woe

Be careful if you ever go to a shop to have a wheel aligment done on this car. The vast majority of garages don't seem to know wheel aligment values, and those that do don't seem to be taking into account the fact that the front axle is narrower than the rear.
Just had an argument with a garage that insisted that rear toe was measured with respect to the front wheel and not the line of the car.
Doesn't fill me with confidence.
