Hi all, I'm coming over to here from the Noble forums having just sold my Noble for a new M3 coupe.

I needed the comfort and convenience and didn't want an all out track car anymore.

I'm just about to take delivery of the new car and have noticed a lot of chatter about exhausts.

I think the standard exhaust sounds fine but coming from the Noble everything is quiet!

What's everybody fitting to them these days, i see a large number of companies are offering different systems.

I want a system that will improve on the idle sound, remove the cabin drone that people are talking about and sound great on full throttle. But, I don't want it to compromise on track day sound levels as I'll be taking it on the occasional jaunt around various circuits.

Any number of these

Akrapovic

BMW Performance or Modified Factory Exhaust (cheap and ok for track 89db i think)

Supersprint
Eisenmann
Evolve

The Evolve Valvetronic can be adjusted with a switch so loud and quiet, expensive though.

Have a look on M3Cutters.co.uk. It's a great source of anything E92 M3 related including exhausts. If you want a cheaper option Google "E92 m3 OEM exhaust mod". I'm doing this to my car in the next few days.

OEM exhaust mod. Dirt cheap and sounds great!

Mine registered 89.8dB drive by at Donington last Sunday so well within the 98dB limit.

As mentioned above m3cutters is a good site for plenty of E92 M3 info and opinion.

I've got the BMW M Performance exhaust which I'm happy with. It's quiet at idle and normal revs but sounds great at 5k rpm onwards. I've heard the Eisenmann sport which is about on par noise wise with the M Performance and Eisenmann do a race exhaust as well if you want louder.

The Akrapovic sounds great but was more than I wanted to spend.

When do you pick up your M3 or have you got it already?

As had been said the OEM mod is very good for only a tiny outlay. I was happy with mine as it didn't drone and really gave a better sound over 5k.

Agree with the mod. I was followed into a petrol station by a fellow M3 driver last week who asked me what system I'd had fitted to retain the standard look. He was shocked at what £150 could get him :-)

A good friend of mine has just fitted the Evolve E-Tronic exhaust to his e90 M3 and it is lovely. Awesome sound at the puch of the button.

I have an E92 on order at the moment and will be going down the OEM mod route, looks great as standard and sounds fantastic. I think second hand OEM exhausts on ebay are going to become less plentiful and more expensive as more people discover this mod. smile

Be nice if they did as that would obviously be an endorsment and save me having to go an buy a second hand back box. I am not going to chop open a brand new exhaust on a lease car.

I very much doubt they would though, they have their own M Performance product to sell.

I cant see any main dealer sanctioning cutting open a silencer box, removing the silencer packing and sealing up the perforated tubes, then rewelding the silencer back up.
Ask them, its worth a try...
Any indy or tyre & exhaust garage will happily do it though, especially if you show them some pics of what you actually want doing.

why when they will probably charge you and arm and a leg! Any decent exhaust place will be able to do it for much less.

I'm going to get it done by a local exhaust garage rather than ask the dealer.

Can anybody recommend a decent exhaust place in the North West of England that's done this before?

Have you tried M3Cutters.co.uk as per my recommendation earlier?

This M Power section may be too broad for your specific query. If you ask on M3Cutters there will be M3 owners in the North West who have had this mod carried out.

My E92 M3 is booked in for 8:30 tomorrow morning to have this very mod carried out. I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks t8cmf, yes I've been on M3Cutters but I'm trying to avoid the need to register on multiple forums if I don't need to.

However, it does look like the other forums is more focussed.
