Hi all, suffered a fairly large blowout yesterday on the A3, luckily no damage was caused, and nobody injured, but I'm in the market to replace all my tyres, and would like some recommendations? I've got 235/45/zr17's fitted at the moment, occasional track use, but mainly on the road? Many thanks!

What wheels are you running.

OEM setup was for a staggered rims and tyres so you should have 225/45/17 on the front and 245/40/17 on the rear.

I have Goodyear Eagle F1's on my M3 and they're great. I may swap to Michelin PS2 if I can get them in the right sizes when I am due a change.

I ran the OEM Continental Contisport Contact M3's on my Z4M and I didnt find their performance in the wet to be very good.

I've got a set of Type 2 Schnitzer wheels on the car, and theyre not staggered, but are so much lighter than the stock wheels, im happy to keep them as is!

If you're keeping the same size all round, I'd go for the Asym 2's. They're great value for money at the moment and get universal praise.

I got Vredestein Ultra Cento's on the front of mine when they didn't have Sessanta's in stock. They aren't supposed to be ultimately as good in the dry but much better in the wet. I figured that you've got to be really pushing in the dry to lose traction, whereas it takes far less effort in the wet. That and we live in UK, it rains a lot. So wet weather tyres seems more sensible.

They aren't assymetric, so shed water really well and greatly reduce aqua-planing. Had them for a year and no complaints. They also have a reinforced sidewall bead to reduce the chance of kerbing the tyres.

If you wanted to do some track-days in the summer, you'd do as well as to get some cheap second-hand tyres that you can trash.

I had Toyo T1R'S on mine and they were awesome, I believe they have been replaced by the T1S nowadays thoughsmile

When I bought my car it had staggered Kumhos on it...and the rears were bald. I chucked another pair on the rear (as they were in stock - it matters when you live on an island!).

2,500 miles later, the rears were shot (oops...) but I may have "helped" this along as I never got on with the Kumhos; awful ride, no feel and no progression, etc. As such, I have swapped to Pilot Sport 3s.

Night and day difference and can't recommend the PS3s enough.

T1R replaced the T1S, the T1R has been replaced by the T1 Sport.

It's a little confusing.

How long are you getting out of your PS3s?

I've currently got Contisports on mine, seem great performance on the general but grip is dropping off quickly as they wear down... 5000 miles in.

As above, conti sports are brilliant, sometimes a little pricey though depending on size but pound for pound I'd take the contis everytime.

I bought my car ( a late 2003 6 speed car ) about 3 weeks ago and have now covered around 400 miles. I was very pleased to see that she had Contis all round ( aprox half worn ) i have done one quick cross country journey in heavy rain and they are very impressive in the wet. Like wise in the dry, very impressive.

My Griff has Toyo T1R ? On the rear and I am very pleased with them in the dry, but I don't push it in the wet as the the thing is very unpredictable in rain, bites hard and very fast and is also prone to aquaplaning.
When the Contis on the M3 need changing I will probably go to Toyos ( if I can get them in 19s ) purely due to the cost of Contis.
