Is this good value?

Hi all, sold my e46 M3 smg back in august and haven't been able to decide on what to get next...saw this and am not sure whether its good value?

Do ppl think the forthcoming m4 will hit residuals hard?
And how does the DCT compare to SMG2 which quite frankly was a bit crap especially in traffic where by 45000 miles it had developed a lot of clutch judder!
Lastly does anyone have any experience of the frozen paints on the e92 ie is it hard to maintain? Any problems?

no need to worry about judder,
launch won't give as much stress to the gearbox compared to smg
so smooth
so quick
so efficient

but no joy of SMG BANG

I drive M6 with SMG III,
when I drive my friend's e92 M3 with DCT, it just feels weird..
it's so smooth, gearshift is near-instant, so easy.

Is it possible to extend it before the 3 yrs is up?

Looks a nice low mileage example & although I have a manual box in my m3 the DCT is a quality gearbox far improved over the old SMG, you are given the option of extending the warranty I was offered it on my old 5 series.

You will love the engine in the v8 m3 it's the best thing about the car for me.

Some dealers may give you a year warranty from when the manufactures expires. I know Eastern BMW were putting 2 years warranty on some AUC cars.

Seems good value. AUC can be extended (about 800 for a year).

I doubt M4 values will have too much of an affect for a couple of years as it is likely to cost quite a bit more than the E92 did.

DCT = Brilliant. I'd never go back to a manual.

Do your homework on the "frozen" paint. It is nothing like a normal paint job in regard to maintenance.

I'd say the car has a reasonable amount of options but is not fully loaded. No mention of EDC or upgraded audio and many of the items listed are standard fit.

The warranty is a bonus but I don't think the car is spectacular value. A year ago I bought my late 2009 E90 with low miles, high option count, one owner, as an AUC from Sytner for a little over £30K. Not directly comparable but gives you another reference point, and you have no comeback on a private sale.

Don't listen to the doom sayers about the frozen paint, you can wash it and protect with wax, you just can't polish it or use clay bars on it.

You do however have to use special shampoo, cleaner fluid and wax, BMW and Swissvax both sell a range of products.

As with all BMW paints make sure you get any bird lime off it ASAP.

But is does have the competition pack wheels, the CP comes with EDC and revised software and damping plus a 10mm lower ride height, it's possible that the wheels were fitted afterwards but I doubt it, whoever specced the car spent £1800 on paint so I reckon that's got the CP as well.

I have a manual E92 M3 and have owned it for 4-years. Daily driver, absolutely awesome. Not driven the DCT but heard great reviews over the older SMG box. Owned a couple of E46's before this E92 and the difference between the two cars is immense.

Best part - the V8 engine.

Looks good value to me, I bought mine (Alpine spec with std competition suspension) in Sept'12 for 34.5k. Just out of warranty but has the 5yr service pack.

Check its got the EDC

Frozen paint is impossible to match up according to what I've heard. If you really want it have a think about protecting the front from stonechips

It's nice to know of another owner with the manual I wouldn't swap my manual for the DCT in anyway tbh as I like the extra interaction & as you say the engine is just epic! I find EDC a benefit too it seems to sharpen everything up.

We are certainly in the minority, everyone seems to love two pedals nowadays, I am happy to live in past & just putting my foot down & holding on doesn't float my boat.

Possibly, but look at picture 6 in the Ad. I reckon there's enough line of sight past the stick to be seeing the white graphic of an EDC switch.

I'd also assume nothing when it comes to spec on M3's. When I was looking very few had seat heating. I wrongly assumed that anyone speccing a £55K car with leather seats would tick the £350 box for seat heating.

I agree with this I thought most would spec heated seats with leather, when I was looking for mine I wanted a manual box EDC heated seats & Bluetooth anything else was a bonus, in this spec there is currently only one car on the AUC site!

If you want the DCT with the same spec there are plenty to go at, the manual box is a dying breed in the uk it seems.

Yeah I did spot that too but couldn't make my mind up, the car also has extras that the seller hasn't listed such as sliding arm rest etc..so I would want to confirm the spec before viewing.

It would also be the first frozen paint car I've seen with the CP but with the wheels, so quite rare!

Although having had a non EDC car as well as a CP equipped one it wouldn't bother me it's a button I don't press I just leave it in comfort the handles better that way to me.

I have had extensive experience of DCT since 2008 and whilst it is brilliant on track and extremely effective in normal road use it just leaves me cold.

For that reason I got my Competition Spec E92 with manual (just as I did with my earlier E92) and thoroughly enjoy the experience. Every gear change is an opportunity to interact fully with that superbly responsive engine (in a way that you just don't have to with DCT).

I would think that since late 2008 - when DCT became pretty much the standard spec for dealers ordering to stock - only a tiny percentage of M3s have entered the UK with manual transmission.

Yeah I was inspired! True about the driveway very annoying I have to wait for the revs to go down then power button on plus gear setting 5, most tiresome!
