Z4M - resetting of ECU to suit driving style?

I could have the wrong end of the stick here so please bear with me ...
When I got my 06 Z4M nearly three years ago I heard that there is a way that you can reset the ECU to your driving style? This was of particular interest to both my friend and I as she picked up a 56 plate a few months later and the temperament of the cars were like chalk and cheese. Mine has always been quite bad tempered and hers more compliant/smoother to drive. We later found out from a dealer that hers had newer software when her sport button didn't behave the same as mine.
Anyway, I digress. The battery on mine died over the winter and since getting it back on the road it *seems* to be better behaved, like my friends car was (since sold) Is a shame as I preferred it the way it was.
Anyone have any knowledge or experience of resetting ECUs? Is it possible? Maybe the car does it per journey/driving style like some of the more intelligent gearboxes do for example...? Maybe I should take it out and be more playful with it to see if the old aggressive car will come back? Was probably taking it easy on the winter roads.
