Hi guys,
It is a subject that has been done to death over the internet but this is slightly different (well maybe not)
I love the M5 (E60) and I actually love the sound although this is my 3rd car so I do not use it for huge mileage and as such it could be improved by sounding a little more dramatic.
My car however is a BMW AUC warranty car and as such I don't want to make that null and void and to be honest even BMW seem a little unsure about the subject.
Does anyone have an improved rear silencer on there M5 and still maintain the AUC warranty?
If it is a grey area then I will stick as it is because the car is great without but given the lower mileage I will do (3-5K a year) it could be more dramatic sounding.

"Dealer will not void a warranty unless there is damage to under-warranty components caused by the tune. However, it would be limited to those parts that are proven to be damaged by the aftermarket tune, so just be sensible."
IIRC the exhaust systems are not covered under comprehensive warranty anyways.
If your concern is about the modified exhausts possibly voiding warranty on engine parts (or parts around exhausts such as diff) then it's highly unlikely.
I cannot tell you with 100% confidence but as long as you have good relationship with your dealership and be sensible on the matter, I personally don't see much of problems that could happen.
If you do modify your exhaust, just make sure you put the heat shields back on or cover it with heat wraps.
You wouldn't have to touch it if you change the back boxes only but in my case I changed the entire system after the secondary cats (Non-resonated custom X-pipe with Valvetronic straight pipes just before the back boxes) hence I had to get rid of the heat shields and put high performance heat wraps.
Just be sensible on the mod, you'll be fine.
Forgot to add, yeah I have custom valvetronic exhausts and went for various warranty jobs, I had no problem.

That is kind of what I was expecting really but I think its one of them subjects that really comes down to the individuals involved at the time (dealership and owner)
I think its best if I go down the dealership and have a chat when I am next there with a few people and see what they recon as in reality they are the ones who suggest the work needs to be done or not done
