Biggest power 1M in the uk!
Discussion
I posted on the 1M forum earlier in the month but thought other M// car owners also might be interested to know the power the baby M can make with a few choice mods,,
I collected the 1M from Ray west tuning over a week ago now-he had it a few weeks making sure the map was perfect.
I didnt realise how much i had missed driving it.
What a transformation now its all done.
Using a Dyno Dynamics rolling road the final figures are
454/530 bhp/lbft
mods include
SPEC R intercooler and HARDPIPE kit,Pete's work is second to none and his skills speak for themselves in the dynograph.
3" custom de cat down pipes ceramic coated,
N54 mid pipes.(standard rear exhaust to retain lbft and keep noise levels down.)
Ray west tuning custom map.
Ray West also adjusted the wheel allignment which has always felt twitchy in standard from and now has much more traction and poise.
I cannot recommend Ray highly enough.
Coming from a touring car racing background his level of knowledge and experience was clearly evident with various race cars dotted around his work shop.
From Ferrari challenge cars to a genuine original BMW CSL BATMOBILE race car-along with classic E types and a 1973 Porsche gt rs not to mention a 720bhp 997 gt2 road car.
I dropped the car off to Ray with the car running the standard map and the other mods already fitted.
Obviously with the car not mapped to run the mods it felt a bit rough and fiesty under full throttle.
Also the standard geometry set up allowed the rear end to brake traction very easily but now with Ray's experience and attention to detail he's managed to Map the car so it has a smoother power delivery than ever before and adjust the geometry so the rear's running more toe in and less camber she simply grips and goes.

Ive also added HEL brake lines, Carbotec XP10 brake pads all round
and have 285/30/19 rear Michelin Pilot Sports to go on in the future,
Next step,,, BIGGER turbos and supporting mods to crack 500bhp lol
A pic of me about to get black flagged for drifting at brandshatch indy last winter lol
In stock set up we managed a 54 sec lap with cooked brakes and slightly worn tires, so it will be intersting to see what it can do now,,

So all that power increase was achieved with just an uprated intercooler and exhaust and a remap? On the stock injectors and turbos? mods include

Are you claiming this as the "Biggest power 1M in the uk" then? I'm wondering how you know that there isn't a more powerful one out there somewhere?

Most standard 1M's produce closer to 350hp than the figure (335hp) quoted by BMW. That's a 100hp increase from a decent intercooler, some less restrictive cats/downpipes and the deletion of the secondry cats along with a live remap. Evolve are seeing 430hp from similar mods, so I see no reason to suspect these claims aren't realistic. Are you claiming this as the "Biggest power 1M in the uk" then? yep, Are you claiming this as the "Biggest power 1M in the uk" then? I'm wondering how you know that there isn't a more powerful one out there somewhere?
i'm pretty sure nobodys gone further with the 1M engine so far?
If anybody already has then i'd love to speak to them and see what route they took?
The uk only has so many BMW tuners and Ive spoke to alot of them whilst researching the best parts to use,
There's only 450 uk 1M's in the first place so im pretty sure if there was a more highly modified one it wouldnt be a secret for long.
I didnt set out to make the fastest one, it just so happens that SPEC R and Ray West Tuning have done an amazing job in providing me with superior products compared to what was on the market before they had my car for R&D.
I couldnt be happier with the results and will keep the thread updated with any future mods and any track day footage..
cheers Jamie

Crazy stuff......
I must be getting old, but mine feels fast enough straight out of the box.
Have you driven it in the wet yet? You'll need to be 100% focused to keep it on the straight and narrow!
Enjoy!

You clearly haven't found the key component that unlocks the 1M's chassis potential in the wet . . . .

Its my daily drive so it gets driven in the rain and only left in the garage if it snows.
They are a tad fiesty in the wet eh?
I'm happy to inform that since Ray West set the geometry up,
It now has more traction with 530 lbft than it did with the standard settings whilst running 375lbft.
I would say that the biggest improvement i've made to the car is having Ray adjust the geometry to his custom settings.
It transformed the car's behavior so it now feels much more sure footed under acceleration and turn in, leaving the driver with more confidence to press-on without having to worry about the back end stepping out at every opportunity.
With the car being such short wheelbase with alot of torque,
I found it hard to adjust to the twitchy nature it had fresh out the box.
We did a wet tourist day at the Ring last year and i couldnt resist drifting around all day learning its limits.
If I had known then that Ray could make it so much more driveable with his tweeks it would have saved me a few pairs of underwear lol

Now I have an excuse to come out in it
Are you loving the Carbotechs? A friend has a lot of experience with them as isn't as fond of the 10's IIRC as they tend to eat discs. Make sure you wash the wheels often
Mine are filthy within 2 secs with the carbotechs
P.S-do they squeal?

This sounds like just the mod I've been looking for - I especially like the fact you have cured the twitchy rear end. As much as I love my 1M I really notice the short wheelbase when I am pressing on and its a pain in the arse!
Dores it still feel breahless after about 5500 / 6000 RPM or does it pull more cleanly all the way to rev limiter? Did Ray say anything about how the transmissin woould cope with the extra torque?
Lastly wheer is he based and what was the cost?
Love the wideos of the drifting at the ring - a brave choice of venue to establish the limits of your chassis in the wet - fair play

Really ? On the face of it, your post appears to be questioning pretty much everything the OP has claimed.Edited by Slippydiff on Sunday 17th March 08:42

It's one of those things people brag about but have zero facts to quantify it (except for many proven drag races/dyno runs etc). Unless there are several drag/sprint days and you win against all of the other cars of the same type out of there its just a wild claim.
Anyway I do love the car and you look to have some talent at driving it which is entertaining to watch!
